Andrew Henley - Greens for Evelyn has signed the Cheaper Power Pledge.

The Three Core Commitments are

1. Cheapest, most reliable power: Support renewable energy and storage growth, meet climate targets as coal plants retire, maintain the ban on fracking, and oppose public funding for nuclear power.
2. No one left behind: Ensure renters, apartment dwellers, families, and workers benefit from clean energy and can transition away from costly gas appliances.
3. Protection from price shocks: Accelerate home and business electrification, reduce reliance on volatile gas and coal, and protect the State Electricity Commission's (SEC) placement in the Victorian Constitution.

Hundreds of Aussies are joining every week as it becomes clearer to many that only the Greens can take on One Nation and the big corporations.

The new Greens leader has promised to give members a say in future leadership contests. But the minor party’s sign-ups still lag far behind One Nation.

Cr Jim Child OAM JP MAICD, O'Shannassy Ward Yarra Ranges Council, Victoria. said capping waste charges would force the council to cut costs elsewhere in order to make up for lost revenue.

“How are we going to pay for this? Because it’ll come back to us to pay for it,” Cr Child said.

“If it’s capped, we’re going to have to make a decision as far as our budget is concerned, regarding what we are going to cut.”

“Our community has to be made aware of the consequences, and the financial consequences, of what’s playing out with this proposal put forward by the state opposition,” Cr Child said.

The Yarra Ranges Council had “a whack” at the Victorian Liberal opposition’s proposed return to weekly rubbish collections at the 11 August council meeting. O’Shannassy Ward councillor Jim Child said a return to weekly red-lid bin collections would undo major landfill reductions the council ...

Every day, vulnerable Australians are bombarded with gambling ads. Targeted inducements and personalised promotions are designed to keep them betting, even when they're trying to stop.

Yet this Labor Government is failing to take the action needed to protect them.

Labor's new gambling laws are weak and riddled with loopholes. They fail to create a national gambling regulator, leave dangerous online advertising and inducements largely untouched, and rely on an opt-out model for streaming – instead of putting people in control with opt-in protections.

To tackle the harm of this insidious industry on our kids, we need to stop the gambling ads.

That's why the Greens are calling on the Federal Government to:

Ban all TV, radio and online gambling advertising.
End the grip of the gambling industry on politics by banning political donations from gambling and other destructive industries.
The Greens will keep fighting for reforms that protect people, not gambling company profits, and deliver the full intent of the Murphy Report.

Join us to demand urgent action on gambling harm.

IT'S TIME FOR A COMPREHENSIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ACT.
Big Tech corporations are deploying dangerous AI systems across Australia without proper safeguards.

Workers are losing jobs, creators are having their work stolen, and our personal data is being harvested without consent.

Meanwhile, high-risk AI is increasingly making decisions about our healthcare, housing, and justice system, in secret. We deserve better.

That's why we are calling on the Albanese Government to:

Pass a comprehensive AI Act. Stop dangerous AI before it's unleashed, not after it ruins lives.
Stop the great AI art theft. Ban tech giants from stealing creative works and force them to pay creatives fairly.
Our data, our choice. No more sneaky data grabs: we decide if AI gets trained on our personal information and if we want to turn off AI in apps and on devices.
End secret AI decisions. When AI decides your job, loan, or freedom, you deserve to know how and why.
Protect workers from robot takeover. No AI in workplaces without talking to workers first and helping them retrain where needed.
Stop AI's climate vandalism. Force Big Tech to reveal and slash the massive carbon footprint of their power-hungry AI data centers.

The Victorian Greens are calling on the Allan Government to immediately strengthen Victoria's anti-corruption laws, saying there is no excuse to delay reform until after the election.

It follows new reports that companies working on Big Build projects continued making payments to alleged underworld figures despite repeated warnings to the government.

The Greens said the allegations expose the gap between Labor's claims of having "zero tolerance" for corruption and its refusal to give IBAC the powers it needs to properly investigate where taxpayer money is going.
