COMING SOON TO KATANNING ART GALLERY ❤️ 💛 🖤

We're very privileged to be able to bring you "The Strelley Mob" - Animation, historical archives, and rarely seen illustrations bring to life the story of the Strelley Mob and the enduring legacy of the Pilbara Strike.

In 1946, hundreds of Aboriginal pastoral workers from across the north-west walked away from the stations in one of the first major industrial strikes by First Nations people. They never returned, instead running their own mining camps and gathering pearl shell to support themselves.

The Strelley Mob exhibition includes drawings, paintings, and animations made by the strikers, their descendants and supporters. Co-curated by Nyangumarta Traditional Owner and linguist Barbara Hale and University of Western Australia art historian Darren Jorgensen, the exhibition combines cultural knowledge and historical research. The Strelley Mob regional tour honours the Pilbara Strike's continuing legacy as its 80th anniversary is commemorated in 2026.

The opening event of The Strelley Mob exhibition for the public is:
🗓 Saturday 24th October,
🕒 3pm,
📍 Katanning Library and Gallery - 16 Austral Terrace, Katanning,
and all members of the public are invited to attend.

The exhibition will run until 21st November, and will be accessible during regular Katanning Library operating hours.

🚨 📢 📚 BIG NEWS FOR OUR LIBRARY PATRONS! 📚 📢 🚨

The time of the carpet judgement is nigh!

Our much-loved and well-worn carpet, that has been holding all of our hopes, dreams, and stories for so long, is being upgraded to a newer, sturdier, more modern style designed to carry the weight of the modern world effortlessly. 🤓 🥳 🤩

But the changeover won't be effortless...! 😳 🤯

We will need to close for 2 weeks to get this done properly - which is why we're letting you know now. Plenty of time to plan ahead, stock your reading stash up, and get ready for a super surprise when we re-open!

🚨 Last open day before we close - Tuesday 24th November 🚨
🎄 Re-opening day - Thursday 10th December 🎄

Details are also in the tiles below - and don't forget to keep a close watch on our page for our 12 Days of Christmas treats and sneaky looks at the renovation process!

See you soon at the Katanning Library! ☺️ 🥰
