🔥 **BUSH FIRE DANGER PERIOD – BLUE MOUNTAINS** 🔥

The Bush Fire Danger Period is now underway, and if you’re planning to burn on your property in the Blue Mountains, there are some important requirements you need to know.

🔥 **FIRE PERMITS**
During the Bush Fire Danger Period, a Fire Permit is required for burning activities. Fire Permits help ensure fire is used safely and that appropriate conditions are in place before you light up.

Depending on where your property is located, permits are issued through the NSW RFS or Fire and Rescue NSW.

📞 Contact the Blue Mountains Fire Control Centre if you’re unsure about the requirements for your property.

📢 **BEFORE YOU LIGHT UP**
Remember:
🔥 Obtain any required Fire Permit and check environmental/Council open burning requirements.
📞 Notify your local fire authority **at least 24 hours before** lighting your fire.
🏠 Notify adjoining neighbours **at least 24 hours before** lighting your fire.
🌤️ Check the weather conditions and Fire Danger Rating before starting.
🚫 Never light a fire during a **Total Fire Ban**. Fire Permits can also be suspended or cancelled due to conditions.
💧 Make sure you have adequate water and firefighting equipment available and never leave your fire unattended.

If your fire escapes, **call Triple Zero (000) immediately**.

A little preparation goes a long way. Know the rules, prepare properly and help keep the Blue Mountains community safe this bush fire season.

Preparation starts with you. When a bush fire threatens, the decisions you make can save your life.

Firefighters will do everything they can to protect communities, but they can’t be everywhere at once. There is no guarantee a fire truck will be there when you need it.

That’s why it’s important to have a Bush Fire Survival Plan and know what you’ll do before a fire starts.

Before the bush fire season:
• Discuss your Bush Fire Survival Plan with everyone in your household.
• Prepare your home.
• Know the Bush Fire Alert Levels and when you need to leave.
• Keep key information and important documents on hand.

The more prepared you are, the more options you’ll have when conditions change.

HAZARD REDUCTION BURN NOTIFICATION

**Blaxland Road, Wentworth Falls – Friday, 18 September 2026**

The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS), supported by Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW), intends to conduct a hazard reduction burn within a small portion of the planned 20-hectare Blaxland Road hazard reduction area along Darwin Ave at Wentworth Falls on **Friday, 18 September 2026**, weather and conditions permitting.

This burn forms part of an ongoing fuel management program aimed at reducing bush fire risk to surrounding properties and the local community. If conditions are unsuitable on 18 September, the burn will be postponed and rescheduled for late September or early October.

Burning operations are expected to continue for several hours on Friday afternoon starting from around 3:00pm . Crews will remain in the area undertaking mop-up and patrol operations for several days following the burn to ensure the area is secure.

Nearby residents may experience periods of **smoke and ash fall** during and following the operation.

The risk to surrounding properties during the burn is considered low. However, residents are encouraged to take the following precautions:

* Clear leaves and other debris from gutters.
* Remove combustible items from the Asset Protection Zone (APZ) behind your property.
* Keep pets secure and provide suitable shelter.
* Close windows and doors and bring washing indoors on the day of the burn.
* Stay well clear of fire operations and follow any directions provided by emergency service personnel.
* If you have asthma or another respiratory condition, consider staying indoors or planning to be away from the area while burning operations are underway.

For questions or concerns regarding the planned burn, please contact the RFS Blue Mountains District on phone 02 4784 7444.
