Congratulations to our Country Protection Team!

Curtis, Don, Jet and Peter are now officially licensed Pest Management Technicians! They're qualified to spray and control mesquite, the w**d that's been taking over our land and waterways.

It's a big deal, because with these licences, the team can now get paid for this kind of work and take their skills to more jobs across the Gacoyne.

Looking after Country and building careers at the same time!

Note: This program is part of the Remote Australia Employment Service which is funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency

This Child Protection Week, our Parent Pathways team spent the day with the mob at Ngunya Jarjum Aboriginal Child and Family Network in Lismore/

Ngunya Jarjum are helping Aboriginal kids grow up strong in family, culture and Country.

It was a good day of yarning and fun activities with the kids, and a chance to meet families and workers who’ve been doing this work in community for a long time. We came to listen and learn as much as to share.

Keeping kids safe takes a whole community. For us, that means backing parents. When mum or dad has steady work, the whole family feels it.

Thank you to the Ngunya Jarjum team for welcoming us. We’re looking forward to working together.

If you’re a parent in the Northern Rivers looking for work and would like some support, send us a message. Our Parent Pathways team would love to connect and help you take the next step!

Are you a First Nations student in Year 10?

What if you could start your career now, while you’re still at school?

A school-based traineeship means:
- Getting paid
- Earning a real qualification
- Still working towards your Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE)

Tell us what kind of work you’re into and Real Futures will help find you a workplace for 2027. We do this through the Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP), funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency

Message us and our team will be in touch!

Cheering for Gareth, Khaleel and Ashwyn for each earning their Learner Drive Licence!

It might sound like a small step. For these three it means more independence, more they can take on at work, and a real lift in confidence and motivation.

Through the Driving Access & Equity Program (DAEP) by Transport WA, the fellas received support with verbal theory practice and test preparation, helping them build the knowledge and confidence needed to successfully achieve their learner licences.

There’s more to come. Gareth and Khaleel are now starting manual driving lessons with the DAEP team, where they’ll get real time behind the wheel.

Congratulations Gareth, Khaleel and Ashwyn. We’re proud of you, and we’re looking forward to backing you all the way to your employment and career goals.

Real Futures supported them through the Remote Australia Employment Service (RAES) and the Remote Jobs and Economic Development (RJED) program, both funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency.

Are you a parent wanting practical support to get a job?

Our Parent Pathways program can help you, just like we helped Tiarna (from Kempsey, NSW) get a job in Traffic Control!

When she joined Parent Pathways with Real Futures, Tiarna was dealing with financial pressure and didn't have her own vehicle. Both made finding work, and looking after her children, much harder.

Working with our team, Tiarna chose Traffic Control as the industry she wanted to get into. We helped her enrol in the course and complete it.

Meanwhile, she also saved up for a car.

We helped Tiarna with:
- Job applications
- Personal protective equipment she needed for the job
- Petrol to get her through training and the job search

Now, Tiarna is working. This is a big step towards financial independence and providing for her family.

If you're a parent, you don't have to do it alone. See if you're eligible for our Parent Pathways program: https://realfutures.net/parent-pathways/

Yesterday, we shared that nine participants have commenced the second intake of the Country Protection Project.

In addition to their Certificate III in Agriculture training, the participants also completed two-weeks of the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program with VTS-Communities RTO 51843.

The SEE Program has focused on strengthening participants’ reading, writing, numeracy, communication and digital skills, while also preparing them for the demands of further study. Importantly, learning has not been limited to traditional classroom activities. Participants have been encouraged to learn through fun, practical and interactive activities, creating an environment where learning is enjoyable, collaborative and engaging.

We are extremely proud of how the participants have demonstrated strong attendance, active engagement and commitment to their learning. Thanks to the support of the VTS Communities team in Carnavon, the participants have stepped out of their comfort zones to develop and grow their skills.

In these photos, the participants take part in a team-building learning activity by using simple materials to design and construct a structure. They practised communication, problem-solving, planning, creativity and teamwork while developing confidence in working together.

Note: This program is part of the Remote Australia Employment Service which is funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency
