๐ŸšซTOTAL FIRE BAN RULES๐Ÿšซ

โžก๏ธ No fires during a Total Fire Ban

โžก๏ธ During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire.

โžก๏ธ General purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) are not to be done in the open.

โžก๏ธ The NSW RFS strongly recommends you reconsider activities such as such using a tractor or slashing, to help reduce the chance of a fire starting on your property.

โ—๏ธReminderโ—๏ธ

โœ… Stay Hydrated โ€“ Drink plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration.

โœ… Avoid Prolonged Outdoor Activities - especially during the hottest part of the day. Seek shade and take regular breaks if you need to be outside.

โœ… Slip, Slop, Slap โ€“ Protect yourself from the sun with sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and protective clothing.

โœ… Check on Others โ€“ Look out for vulnerable people in our community, including elderly neighbours or those with health conditions.

The post-burn assessment and mop-up operations following the recent RFS hazard reduction burn are now complete.

All temporary closure signs along local fire trails and bushland access points have been removed, and the area is once again open to the public.

โ—๏ธREMINDER
โ€ข Stay on designated trails: Some burnt logs, tree stumps, and ash beds off the main paths may still hold residual heat or remain structurally weak.
โ€ข Watch for falling debris: Overhanging limbs or hollowed trunks can drop unexpectedly, especially during windy conditions.
โ€ข Report hazards: If you spot immediate safety hazards, please report them to Triple Zero (000).

Thank you to the Kenthurst community for your patience and cooperation while our volunteer crews worked to safely complete this hazard reduction work.

Earlier today, our crews responded to an illegal burn.

Before the Bush Fire Danger Period commenced, a resident had completed a pile burn on their property. Earlier today, they added fresh garden waste onto the old burn site, unaware that the initial fire had not been fully extinguished at the time.

This resulted in intense heat remaining trapped beneath the ash and soil. As soon as the new waste was added today, the residual heat caused it to reignite.

โ—๏ธREMINDER
We are now at the beginning of The Bush Fire Danger Period. This is the peak season when warm temperatures, low humidity, and dry vegetation significantly increase the risk of rapid, uncontrollable wildfires.

The permit system during this period ensures burns are conducted safely under controlled conditions, protecting your home, family, and our community.

If you are planning any burning activities on your property, take note of the following.

Fire Permits are MANDATORY: A permit is required for burning activities during the Bush Fire Danger Period in RFS districts, and at all times in Fire and Rescue NSW districts statewide.

Permits are FREE & Easy to Get:
๐Ÿ”บIn a Rural Fire District? Apply online via the RFS website.
๐Ÿ”บIn a Fire and Rescue NSW District? Apply via the Fire and Rescue NSW website.

Always Notify Us Before Lighting Up: Even with a permit, you must notify us before you start burning. Submit your burn notification using our online form.

Additional rules may apply, including temporary weather related fire bans.

โ—๏ธHeavy Penalties Apply: Failing to secure a permit or ignoring restriction rules carries serious fines.
