Businesses are a big part of what makes our local communities what they are.

Across Kilmore, Wandong, Kilmore East, Heathcote Junction, Upper Plenty, Wallan East and our other communities across Central Ward, there are plenty of hardworking locals running businesses, providing services and having a go.

I'd love to give some of them a bit of recognition.

So, who's a local business that deserves a shout out? Whether it's a family run shop, your favourite cafe, a local tradie or someone running a business from home, tag them below and let's give them a bit of support! ( Feel free to add businesses from across the shire)

🌾 Giving Agriculture a Stronger Voice in Mitchell Shire

At last night's Council meeting, I had the opportunity to speak about the establishment of our Agricultural Advisory Committee and why I believe it's such an important step forward for Mitchell Shire.

Agriculture has played a significant role in shaping our shire, supporting local families, creating jobs and contributing to our local economy for generations.

As Mitchell continues to experience significant growth and development, it's important that we don't lose sight of the agricultural communities and industries that have helped build our region.

The establishment of this committee is about giving our farmers, producers and agricultural businesses a stronger voice and providing a direct connection between those working on the land and Council.

It's about listening to the people who understand the industry firsthand, recognising the challenges they face and ensuring their knowledge and experience help inform future decisions.

I've always believed that as our shire grows, we have a responsibility to support both our emerging communities and the industries that have been the backbone of Mitchell for generations.

Agriculture isn't just part of our history. It's an important part of our future, and it deserves a seat at the table. 🌾

🏏 Cricket is back across Mitchell Shire!

Another season gets underway today, with players across the shire dusting off the cricket bags and heading out for another summer of cricket.

A big shout-out to all our local clubs:

🏏 Kilmore Cricket Club
🏏 Broadford Cricket Club
🏏 Wallan Cricket Club
🏏 Pyalong Cricket Club
🏏 Tallarook Cricket Club
🏏 Seymour Cricket Club
🏏 Eastern Hill Cricket Club
🏏 Puckapunyal Cricket Club

Having played cricket for many years myself, I know just how much these clubs mean to the people involved. They're a big part of our communities, bringing together generations of players, families and volunteers.

A big thank you to everyone who puts in the work behind the scenes to make each season possible.

Wishing all our local clubs a fantastic season ahead. Hopefully plenty of runs, wickets and a few wins along the way!

Good luck to everyone involved in games today! 🏏☀️

This week, I was fortunate enough to represent Mitchell Shire Council in my capacity as Deputy Mayor, alongside Mayor John Dougall and Cr Bob Cornish, at a joint meeting with Hume City Council and the City of Whittlesea in Broadmeadows.

I also had the opportunity to speak on behalf of Mitchell Shire as we discussed the future of Cloverton and the importance of all three councils working together.

Cloverton is a proposed new city centre located where our three municipalities meet, with around 380,000 people expected to live within its broader regional catchment.

With the state election fast approaching, this was an important opportunity to put forward a united position on the infrastructure and services our growing region will need.

Too often we see communities grow without the necessary investment to support them. We have an opportunity here to make sure that doesn't happen again.

It was pleasing to see all three councils working towards a common goal, recognising that while we represent different municipalities, the challenges facing our communities don't stop at council boundaries.

On 7 October, Mitchell, Hume and Whittlesea councils will come together in Broadmeadows for our second joint council meeting.

Joint council meetings like this are rare. The purpose is to agree on shared priorities and advocate with one strong voice for the government investment our growing region needs.

The focus will be Cloverton a planned major city centre where the three council areas meet.

Cloverton is expected to service around 380,000 people. The vision includes local jobs, shops, schools, healthcare, roads, public transport, parks and community facilities, with a hospital and tertiary education also being advocated for.

I’ll be there representing Mitchell

At Monday night’s Council meeting, I spoke about the commitment made at the Kilmore public high school forum.

It’s a significant step and a credit to the community campaign and the local families who have kept pushing for this.

Great to see that work starting to deliver real results.

A significant step forward for a Public High School for Kilmore.

Tuesday night’s community forum showed just how powerful a community can be when it comes together with a clear message.

The commitment from the Coalition to deliver a public secondary school in Kilmore if elected is an important milestone after years of advocacy from people across our community.

This has always been about giving Kilmore families a genuine public secondary education option in their own town and about building an even stronger community as Kilmore continues to grow.

Huge credit belongs to Public High School for Kilmore and everyone who has advocated, attended meetings, asked questions and kept this issue on the agenda.

The community asked to be heard and it was heard.

A fantastic result and an important moment for Kilmore.

🏫 PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL FOR KILMORE – TONIGHT

Tonight our community comes together to support the push for a public high school in Kilmore.

📍 John Taylor Room, Kilmore Library
⏰ 6:30pm–8:00pm

This is a real opportunity for the Kilmore community to have its voice heard.

We need the community behind this. Every person who comes through the door tonight adds weight to the case for a public high school.

If you support it, please come along, bring someone with you and be part of the conversation.

Let’s show them how much this matters to Kilmore.
