This long weekend we’re expecting severe thunderstorms, large hail, heavy rainfall and damaging winds across parts of the state from this evening into Sunday.

Severe thunderstorms are possible across the Central West, South Coast, Illawarra and Sydney from today through to Sunday, before moving northeast early next week.

Thunderstorms could bring flash flooding, damaging winds, and large hail, with heavy rainfall reaching up to 100mm in some areas. Minor flooding is also possible across state river systems.

Residents in the forecast areas should be prepared and follow safety advice:

🔸Clear your drains and gutters
🔸Trim back overhanging trees or branches
🔸Tie down loose items
🔸If you come across a flooded road, steer clear and find an alternative route

Over the weekend, strong winds brought down a large tree, taking power lines with it and impacting two local homes.
Our SES Kogarah volunteers attended and worked with Ausgrid to make the area safe. We had to wait for Ausgrid to isolate and make the power lines safe before we could begin cutting and clearing the tree to restore access.
Once it was safe to proceed, our volunteers got to work clearing the fallen tree and helping restore access to the affected properties. 💪🧡
A big thank you to our volunteers for turning out overnight and working alongside Ausgrid to keep the community safe.
Stay safe in the wind and storm conditions, and if you see a fallen tree or damaged power lines, keep well clear and report it to the appropriate authorities.

A Unit Member was having his house demolished which gave our trainers a great idea. Why not take the opportunity to do some realistic training in numerous activities like casualty handling, using various power tools, problem solving, team work solutions, access control, team building and a myriad of other opportunities.

All our Members had a great time and got the chance to learn, utilise and gain greater knowledge in various tools, processes and procedures which could help our community.

Thanks to all our Volunteers who gave up their time to attend, our trainers for the time they spent in building the scenarios and of course to our Member who provided the house. I know the new house will be so much better 😀

Last night's training consisted of access too, an familiarisation of our Flood Rescue equipment. Lead by two of Kogarah Units experienced In Water Rescue Operators our Volunteers were given instruction and hands on operation of the specialised equipment the SES uses in Flood Rescues.

At the other end of the building other Members were checking and storing more equipment for quick deployment should the call come.

Kogarah SES members are rolling up their sleeves for the Australian Red Cross Emergency Services Blood Drive🩸

Our team has proudly taken part in donating blood to help support Australians in need, with donations counting toward the nationwide Emergency Services tally from May through to July.

A huge thank you to Australian Red Cross for welcoming the Kogarah Unit and supporting this important initiative. We’re proud to do our part both in and out of uniform.

🧡 WOW Day — Wear Orange Wednesday 🧡

Today, the NSW SES Volunteers Association proudly joins communities across Australia in saying a huge THANK YOU to the incredible NSW SES volunteers and members who wear orange and give their time, skills and heart to help others. 🧡👏🚨

WOW Day is a special reminder to recognise those who respond during storms, floods, rescues, emergencies and times of need — often leaving their own families, homes and work to support their communities. 🌧️🌊⛑️🏠

For nearly thirty years, the NSWSESVA has stood beside SES members through the proud moments and the difficult ones. Much of this support happens quietly behind the scenes through welfare, grants, scholarships, advocacy, family support, recognition and direct assistance. 🤝🧡💙

We are proud to do this work because the NSWSESVA is made up of SES volunteers too. We understand the commitment, challenges, friendships and pride that come with wearing orange. 🧡👷‍♀️👷‍♂️🚨

The NSWSESVA is also proud to be part of the National SES Volunteers Association, supporting and advocating for SES volunteers nationally for recognition such as this. 🇦🇺🧡🤝
