Alpine Camp 2026 7th - 11th September
From the 7th –10th of September, our Alpine Camp students headed off for a three-night alpine camp that proved to be an unforgettable experience, even after our snow sports were cancelled just days before departure. While our original plans had to change at the last minute, the group embraced the alternative activities with enthusiasm, making the most of every opportunity and proving that a great camp is about much more than just snow sports when it comes to the alpine region.
Our first day began with an adventure walking up to the summit of Mt Buller, where students enjoyed the spectacular scenery. A few adventurous students even chose to stay behind with Mr Romer to watch the sunset, braving the freezing temperatures for a truly memorable view!
Day two brought a fantastic mix of outdoor adventure and high-energy fun. Half the group joined Mr Romer and Justin for a hike to discover a beautiful waterfall, while the other half stayed behind with Ms Swinden and Mr Eddy to perfect their snowball-throwing skills and get creative building snow slides. After lunch, everyone headed to the indoor trampoline centre, where students challenged themselves to walk the plank over the foam pit, conquer the highest rock-climbing wall and show off their coolest flips.
On Wednesday, we split into two groups for another action-packed day. Students took turns experiencing horse riding in the beautiful Man from Snowy River country and visiting Mansfield Zoo. At the zoo, students had the opportunity to pat dingoes, feed deer and camels, and get an up-close look at the lions enjoying their lunch! After a busy day of adventures, we wound down that evening with a trip to the Mt Buller cinema to watch Spider-Man, complete with complimentary popcorn or a drink.
Of course, no camp would be complete without the fun that happens after the day's activities. Each evening provided plenty of opportunities for students to relax, socialise and make memories, whether that meant competitive table tennis matches, intense Mario Kart battles or round after round of the ever-popular card game Spoons. Everyone was welcome to join in, and there was certainly no shortage of laughter!
On our final day, we enjoyed a scenic bike ride along the rail trail, taking in the panoramic views around the base of the mountain before making our way home.
Although the cancellation of snow sports presented an unexpected challenge, the camp turned into an incredible opportunity for students to try new things, step outside their comfort zones, strengthen friendships and one that our students will hopefully remember for years to come!
A huge thank you to Mr Eddy for his planning, organisation and flexibility in adapting the itinerary at such short notice to ensure the camp could still go ahead. We would also like to sincerely thank Mr Romer and Justin for giving up their own time to be part of this experience and help make it so special for our students.
