After a long battle with multiple myeloma, it is with sadness that we advise that our former Economic Development Officer, Greg Fenwick, passed away last weekend with his family by his side.
Greg commenced employment with Council in 2022, retiring in April this year and moving north to be closer to family and friends.
Council's sincere condolences are extended to Jenny, Alison, Matthew and families.

πŸ¦… H5 bird flu continues to be detected in Tasmanian wildlife. Please avoid contact with sick or dead wildlife, keep pets away and report any sightings to help prevent the spread. πŸ‘‡

πŸ¦…H5 bird flu update

H5 bird flu continues to be detected in Tasmanian wildlife with 53 H5 bird flu events currently recorded.

The three detections since the last update on 14 October 2026 include the southern elephant seal and a kelp gull on Macquarie Island previously announced, and a forest raven in Stieglitz in the north-east.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania provides weekly public updates through media releases, and the total number of tests conducted, positive events and reports is updated daily on the department’s website.

There are no mass mortalities and no detection in Tasmanian poultry. Chicken and eggs remain safe to eat.

Pet owners play a role in helping prevent the spread of H5 bird flu by keeping cats indoors or in enclosures, keeping dogs away from sick or dead wildlife, and preventing contact between wild birds and domestic birds or poultry.

Community reporting is helping support Tasmania's response efforts.

If you see sick or dead birds or other wildlife:
βœ…Avoid contact
βœ…Record what you see and where you saw it
βœ…Report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888

βœ…Check current advice at www.nre.tas.gov.au/birdflu

Members of the public can report sick or dead birds using our online form and upload photos using their mobile device - nre.tas.gov.au/ReportBirdFlu
