💪 FIT FOR ROLE – DONE AND DUSTED!
(For now 🤫)

Tonight, our volunteers completed the final component of their Fit for Role assessments!

Tonight’s session put our members through their paces with a range of practical activities, including:

💪 Drag
🪢 Haul
🏋️ Lift
🚧 Shift

While it might sound like a typical night of moving furniture, these activities serve a much bigger purpose! 😂

Fit for Role assessments are an important part of ensuring our volunteers have the physical capability to safely and effectively undertake the demanding tasks they may face during emergency operations.

From moving heavy equipment to assisting during storm and flood operations, our members need to be ready for whatever the job throws their way.

A huge well done to everyone who participated tonight and completed their assessments! 👏

Keeping our community safe starts with making sure our volunteers are safe, capable and operationally ready.

One team. Many skills. Always ready. 💪

🏅 PRESENTATION EVENING!

Tonight was a special evening for Leeton SES as we came together to recognise the dedication, service and achievements of our members. We had Ben Pickup and Shane Hargrave from Zone to present the members with their awards.

Several of our members were proudly presented with their NSW Flood Disaster Service Citations, recognising their contribution during the devastating 2022 NSW floods. 🌧️

The citations acknowledge the commitment of members who stepped up during an incredibly challenging time, supporting communities when they needed it most.

We also celebrated members who were formally presented with their rank appointments, recognising the leadership, responsibility and commitment they continue to bring to our unit.

Congratulations to everyone recognised tonight. Whether responding on the frontline, supporting operations behind the scenes, or stepping into leadership roles, we’re incredibly proud of the people who make up Leeton SES.

A well-deserved night of recognition for an amazing group of volunteers. 👏

✨Visit to the Leeton Cubs!

Tonight, some of our Leeton members had the pleasure of visiting the Leeton Cubs to give them a closer look at what the SES does and how we help our community.

The Cubs got the chance to learn about the different types of emergencies we respond to, the important role volunteers play in the community and some of the equipment we use along the way. There were plenty of questions, lots of curiosity and a few excited faces as they got to check out some of our gear! 💙🧡

A special highlight of the night was Bhanuka’s chainsaw demonstration, giving the Cubs an insight into some of the equipment and skills our volunteers use when responding to incidents involving fallen trees and storm damage. 🚨🪚

Meredith also had a chat with the Cubs about the hazards that can come with storms and the importance of knowing how to stay safe when severe weather hits. From fallen trees and powerlines to staying prepared and knowing when to seek help, there were plenty of important storm safety messages shared.

It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm from the group and to share a little insight into the world of the SES. Who knows, we may have met a few future volunteers in the making! 😉

A big thank you to the Leeton Cubs for inviting us along and making us feel so welcome. We had a great time and hope the Cubs enjoyed learning about the SES as much as we enjoyed visiting them!

Community connections and the opportunity to share important safety messages are what make nights like these so rewarding. 👏

24/08/2026

We're in for a wet start to the week with severe thunderstorms possible ⛈️
For inland NSW and the ranges, localised heavy rainfall, flash flooding, damaging winds and large hail are all possible Tuesday before shifting along the northern coast and ranges. Conditions are expected to settle late Wednesday or Thursday.

⚠️ A minor flood warning has been issued for Tumut River due to rainfall forecast from late Monday night into Tuesday.
⚠️ A minor flood warning is also current for the Murray River at Barham.

The NSW SES advises:
🏡Prepare your property now ahead of the storm. Secure loose items that can be blown away in strong winds. Clean your gutters and downpipes to avoid blockages. Fix any broken tiles or damage to your roof. Move your car away from under trees.
🚗 Steer clear of floodwater. If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternative route. Flash flooding can be dangerous and unpredictable. Stay vigilant.
📲 Stay across warnings using the Hazards Near Me app or head to the NSW SES website.

☎️ If you require assistance, call us on 132 500. In life-threatening situations, call Triple Zero (000). See less

Jo takes on the 4WD challenge!

A huge congratulations to our Leeton SES member Jo who headed off to Cowra over the weekend to tackle her 4WD course and came away with a PASS!👏🎉

With plenty of skills, some muddy moments and a very special view along the way, Jo put her skills to the test and absolutely nailed it! 💪

That’s another qualification under the belt and another valuable skill that will help our team when we’re out there supporting our community.

Well done Jo, we’re super proud of you! 👏

Day 1 of the Trainer & Assessor Workshop at the Goulburn Police Academy 👩‍🏫📚

After an early start, plenty of coffee ☕ and a road trip full of questionable playlist choices, the Leeton girls have officially arrived and are ready to get stuck into it!

Today is all about learning, sharing knowledge and building our skills so we can bring even more back to our members.

Let the learning begin! 📚

Ever heard the saying “You can't tie me down"?

Well... after tonight's training, we reckon our members could give it a pretty good crack! 🪢😂

With storm season not too far away, tonight was all about brushing up on our knot-tying skills. From hitches to bends (and maybe a knot or two that looked more like modern art 🤭), our members put in the practice to make sure they're ready when the wild weather rolls in.

Let's just say if the storms don't keep us busy, we might have a future in macramé! 😉

Training hard, having a laugh, and staying ready for whatever Mother Nature throws our way. ⛈️
