Being prepared for fire season doesn't have to mean doing everything at once.
Start with one thing.

📋 PLAN — Start or update your bushfire plan.

🏡 PREPARE — Walk around your property and identify what needs to be done before summer.

📱 STAY INFORMED — Download VicEmergency and set up a Watch Zone for your home.

These are simple things you can do now, before fire risk increases.

And if you need helpw with any of these, we'll be at the Lindenow Community Market next Sunday 18 October to help you get started.

Last night we joined Glenaladale Fire Brigade and Hillside Fire Brigade for some pre-summer safety training, including entrapment drills and working through some of the situations we hope we never have to face, but need to be ready for.

It was also a big week for our brigade, with three new members joining us. 🙌

If you’ve been thinking about joining CFA but haven’t quite taken the leap, now is a great time to get on board. You don’t need to be an experienced firefighter — we’ll train you, and there are plenty of ways to contribute both on and off the fireground.

October is Get Fire Ready Month. As part of CFA's statewide Get Fire Ready campaign, we'll be sharing some practical ways you can prepare your home, family and community for the fire season ahead.
We'll also be getting out into the community — including joining you at the Lindenow Market on Sunday 18 October. We'll be talking fire preparation, planning and emergency warnings, but most importantly, we're here to answer your questions and have a chat. Getting fire ready isn't one big job. It's a series of small things we can do together.

The Fire Danger Period for East Gippsland and Wellington begins at 1am Monday 5 October.

That’s earlier than last year, so if you’re used to doing things a certain way, it’s worth checking the rules before lighting up.

During the Fire Danger Period, you need a written permit to burn off grass, undergrowth, weeds or other vegetation.

👉 Find out what you can and can’t do during the Fire Danger Period visit www.cfa.vic.gov.au/can or by calling VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226

The latest Spring Seasonal Outlook has identified East Gippsland as an area of above-normal fire potential this spring.
On Sunday 18 October, Lindenow Fire Brigade will be at the Lindenow Community Market to help our local community prepare for the fire season.

We'll be there to talk about:

🔥 Your local bushfire risk
🏡 Preparing your property
đź“‹ Starting or updating your bushfire plan
📱 Downloading VicEmergency and setting up a Watch Zone

You don't need to have everything sorted.

Come and have a chat with us and take one practical step towards being fire ready.

Spring is a good time to get ahead. We don't want to wait until summer to start thinking about fire preparation. There's plenty you can do now while the weather is still manageable — mow long grass, clear leaves and debris, cut back vegetation around your home and make sure access is clear for emergency vehicles. You don't have to do it all in one weekend. Pick a job, get it done and tick it off. A little preparation now can make a big difference later.

Over the next few weeks, you'll see our members out checking fire hydrants around the area to make sure they're accessible and ready to go when they're needed.
If there's a hydrant near your home, have a quick look and make sure it's not blocked by a car, bin, vegetation or anything else that could make it difficult to access.
It might not seem important on an ordinary day, but when we need water quickly, every second counts.

A little bit of rain, a little bit of sunshine and our gardens are beginning to grow. Yours too?

With another sunny weekend ahead, garden clean-up is on our list of chores — and there's a good reason for getting stuck into it now.

As spring growth picks up and the days get warmer, the grass and vegetation around our properties will become fuel for fire. Clearing up leaves and debris, keeping grass under control and cutting back vegetation around the house are simple things we can do now to make our properties safer before summer.

We don't know what the coming fire season will bring, but we do know that getting prepared early is better than trying to catch up when the weather heats up.

So if you're heading into the garden this weekend, you're not alone. We'll be out there too.

Today our members joined brigades from across the Mitchell Group for a training activity at Sarsfield Recreation Reserve.

This kind of training is about more than knowing how to operate our truck — it’s about building the teamwork and confidence we rely on when things get busy. And this summer looks likely to be busy.

A big thank you to everyone involved in organising today’s activity and making it such a valuable day.

And if standing around talking about fire trucks, getting your hands dirty and learning some pretty useful skills sounds like your kind of Sunday, we’re always looking for new volunteers. 🚒

Come and have a chat with us — there’s a place for you at Lindenow CFA.
