It has been a privilege to attend the 2026 Goodstart Conference and Goodies Awards.
Two inspiring days of collaboration, learning, reflection, and innovation alongside so many passionate leaders and educators.

What do children really need to flourish?

As parents, we hear all the time that the early years matter. But when you’re choosing an early learning centre, what should you actually be looking for? What does high-quality early learning really look and feel like?

We asked Goodstart Chief Children’s Officer and early learning expert Professor Cathrine Neilsen-Hewett to break down what the evidence tells us makes the biggest difference for children.
And it’s not about having the newest equipment, the fanciest toys or the most picture-perfect rooms.

It’s about the things happening within those spaces every day: skilled educators, strong and secure relationships, rich interactions with other children, intentional play-based learning, and strong leadership and supportive team culture.

Our children have been busy exploring the many important jobs that our families and members of our community do to help us every day! 👩‍⚕️👨‍🚒👷‍♂️👩‍🏫🚓

Through books, discussions, dramatic play and hands-on learning experiences, children have been discovering: 🏠 Who builds our houses 👩‍⚕️ How doctors help keep us healthy 🔧 What mechanics do to fix our cars 👮‍♂️ How police officers keep us safe 🚒 The important role of firefighters and many more!

As children learn about different occupations, they are building their understanding of the world around them, developing respect for diverse people in our community, and expanding their vocabulary through meaningful conversations.

We love hearing children share their own experiences about the jobs their family members do and the ways they contribute to our community. ❤️

Creating a safe sleep environment is one of the many ways we care for children each day. From following safe sleep practices and using approved cots, to completing visual checks every 5 minutes, our educators take every step to help children rest safely and comfortably.

We also work closely with families to understand each child's individual sleep routine, because feeling safe, settled and well-rested helps children learn, grow and thrive.

💜 Safe sleep is everyone's responsibility, and it's always a priority.

Like many other early learning centres Goodstart Little Mountain Mark Rd West is preparing for the Connecting the Dots through CultureSea of Hearts Movement again this year.
With the National Reconciliation Week theme of ALL IN, we welcome families, educators and community to add their heart with messages of kindness, love, hope and respect

We’ve kept the hearts created in previous years, and it’s powerful to look back on the messages that continue to guide us. Each heart is a reminder that reconciliation grows stronger with every voice, every story, and every act of care and togetherness.
