Today is the Great ShakeOut, a global drillheld every year, to educate the community on earthquake safety ⚡️

As the control agency for earthquake, we want every Victorian to know the three important steps to stay safe during an earthquake:
1️⃣ DROP
2️⃣ COVER
3️⃣ HOLD ON!

Even though high magnitude earthquakes are rare in Victoria, they do happen and you could experience one while travelling overseas.

For more information on being quakesafe, visit our website:

Today marks the International Day of DisasterRisk Reduction, and this year’s theme is ‘resilience starts at home’ 🏡

We know that understanding how to prepare your home for emergencies is key to keeping yourself and your loved ones safe. Things like keeping your gutters clean and trimming your tress can go a long way in preparing you for a storm or flood.

For tips on preparing your home for a storm

Next Thursday is the Great ShakeOut, a global event held each year to raiseawareness around earthquake safety.

If you are inside during an earthquake, you need to DROP, COVER and HOLD ON!

Did you know that in 2021, we experienced a magnitude 5.9 earthquake in north-east Victoria, with over 35,000 felt reports? This quake caused widespread power outages and building damage. Only 3% of people knew to DROP, COVER and HOLD ON to stay safe when the earthquake hit – a statistic that makes us tremble.

Make sure you’re prepared - register your
earthquake drill here: ses.vic.gov.au/greatshakeout-earthquake-drill
