A Total Fire Ban has been declared for the Greater Sydney Region tomorrow, Monday 12th October, with an Extreme Fire Danger Rating forecast. This includes the Hawkesbury Local Government Area.
⚠️ These are dangerous fire conditions. Take action now to protect your life and property.
Check your Bush Fire Survival Plan and ensure your property is fire ready. If a fire starts, take immediate action.
Reconsider travel through bush fire risk areas.
🔥 A Total Fire Ban means no fires may be lit in the open.

🔥 BUSH FIRE DANGER PERIOD STARTS TOMORROW

Tomorrow, 1 October, marks the beginning of the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period.

From tomorrow, you will need a fire permit before conducting a pile burn or other burn-off on your property.

Fire permits are free. For information on how to apply, visit:

Alternatively, contact Hawkesbury Fire Control Centre on 02 4560 6400.

Before burning, check the conditions of your permit and notify your neighbours, Hawkesbury Council and the RFS at least 24 hours beforehand. Fire permits are automatically suspended during Total Fire Bans.

A Total Fire Ban will be in place tomorrow, Saturday 5 September for the Greater Sydney Region, with Extreme fire danger forecast.

Warm, dry and windy conditions are forecast across parts of the state, with much of northeast NSW experiencing High fire danger.

Take action now. Know your fire risk and what you will do if fire threatens. Remember to report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

Hazard Reduction – Greens Swamp HR, Lower Portland

On behalf of the Hawkesbury Bush Fire Management Committee, the community is advised that the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) supported by the NSW RFS are intending to undertake the Greens Swamp Hazard Reduction burn at Lower Portland, weather and conditions permitting.

📅 Date: Sunday 2 August 2026
⏰ Time: Commencing from 11:00hrs
📍 Location: Vicinity of Wheelbarrow Ridge Rd & Greens Swamp Trl, Lower Portland
📏 Size: 750ha
🚒 Lead Agency: National Parks and Wildlife Service

Smoke may be visible from surrounding areas following Sunday and leading into next week. Residents with respiratory conditions are encouraged to take appropriate precautions, and motorists should drive to conditions if smoke affects visibility on nearby roads.

Please make sure before you start your fireplace,that the flue is clean

It’s all still in good condition

Once started see if the fire leaks smoke in the flue or any other area ,
if it does close it down and get it repaired
