A few lucky youngsters this weekend experienced what it was like for new pilots training in World War 2, eighty years ago. Carter and Harry are two of triplets who were treated to an amazing birthday joy flight in the vintage Tiger Moth, while their sister preferred her cultural experience at the eisteddfod. Xavier followed with his birthday treat from dad Matt, stirring his aviation dreams of becoming a pilot like his grandpa. Our teenage volunteers were helping too, Hudson, Ashton and Alexia. The vintage DH82A Tiger Moth and our volunteers had a busy weekend! Carmel was first away on Sunday, loving every minute, finding her home at Ooralea after soaring over the city, beaches and beautiful Pioneer Valley. Cameron was next and said the aerial experience in the iconic machine was much more fun than he expected. Terry, Mark and Stew helped volunteer pilot Ross get them away. Joseph was full of questions as he soaked up the exciting experience of vintage aviation in the Tiger Moth open cockpit. He found it hard to believe the wings are made from timber and fabric, held together with wires! He loved his joy flight with volunteer pilot Ross, and stayed on to explore some of the memorabilia in the hangar. Bookings for weekend joy flights www.mackaytiger.com.au or 4998 5677bh.

Young Lila had an amazing surprise joy flight this morning. Her brothers are coming to Mackay soon and Grandparents Wendy and Mick along with Mum Sally dropped in to see if they would be big enough to take a ride in the Tiger Moth. Lila checked out the booster seat, and next thing Mick was buying her a ticket on the spot! She was so excited about her aerial adventure and couldn't stop asking questions. Then Mick surprised Wendy with a flight too, and they all left with huge smiles. The boys won't miss out, we'll be meeting them sometime soon. Bookings www.mackaytiger.com.au or 4998 5677bh

Kieran revived his aviation fever this morning as Chief Pilot Michael soared over the beautiful city, beaches and Valley in the 84-year-old WW2 Tiger Moth. Shan says it was worth stretching the budget to see his excitement, after he had put his flying lessons on hold for more important life decisions! Ground crew volunteers were Jason, Reg and Hudson. Robin was so lucky to get his joy flight in this morning before flying back to UK later today...windy weather earlier this week caused a couple of postponements. He was thrilled with his big birthday aerial experience in the trusty DH82A Tiger Moth while in the area visiting his daughter. Callum was next in the open cockpit celebrating his 30th as Chief Pilot Michael gave him an exhilarating ride over the city and scenic Pioneer valley. Bookings www.mackaytiger.com.au or 4998 5677bh.

Taj is a very lucky 15-year-old, so excited when the family gave him a birthday present joy flight this morning in the 84-year-old DH82A Tiger Moth. Conditions were perfect as they flew over his home in Eimeo. Frank was next to re-live the thrill of vintage aviation - he is a former paratrooper visiting from South Africa, making the most of his time in Mackay. Volunteer pilot Ross was in the pilot seat while Stew, Mark were ground crew helped by air cadets Hudson, Alexia and Ashton. Bookings www.mackaytiger.com.au or 4998 5677bh.

We congratulate Ross Robotham, who was presented with a much-deserved Life Membership of the Museum at today's AGM. He has been a dedicated volunteer pilot with us for 20 years, and behind the scenes has taken a large responsibility and workload maintaining our licence to operate under CASA. He continues to love showing our passengers the aerial highlights around Mackay in our treasured Tiger Moths. Thanks Ross!
