Happy International Coffee Day! ☕️💫

“Celebrating Coffee, Honouring the People Behind Every Cup.”

To the growers, roasters and baristas … thank you for your service 🙏
And to everyone who speaks to me before my first coffee … thank you for your courage 😂

As pictured, I’m taking today’s celebrations very seriously ✅

I feel today is going to be a great day … finally, a celebration I’ve been training for my entire adult life 😅☕️💫

SOMETHING NEW is coming to Deb & Me socials 👀

Over the coming months, I’ll be sharing a new series:

Practitioner Spotlight – People Behind the Practice 🌟

This series will feature short, informal conversations with thoughtful local practitioners doing meaningful work in our community.

We will talk about who they are, what they do, what matters to them in practice, and some of the reflections that shape the way they work ... with a focus on connection and wellbeing.

My hope is that these conversations make professional ideas feel more accessible, celebrate the people behind the roles, and create a little more connection between practitioners and the broader community.

And ... because this is Deb and Me, there will almost certainly also be coffee, humour, a slightly questionable production set up, and me hoping I remembered to press record 🤣

Thoughtful humans. Meaningful work. Real conversations.

Stay tuned 💫

Monday Musing …
Inviting connection 💫

In my therapy room, there is a small invitation to leave an anonymous message of hope, kindness or encouragement for the next person who might spend some time here.

This month, there have been some particularly lovely little messages of connection left for one another 🥹

These words are written by people who don’t know who will read them next. They don’t know their story, what kind of day they are having, or what they might be carrying when they walk through the door.
They simply know that sometimes humans need other humans to remind them that they can keep going.
And there is something rather beautiful about that.

Over time, my whiteboard has quietly developed its own little community 💛

Wellbeing message from Deb & Me:
Connection doesn’t always require knowing someone’s story. Sometimes it simply begins with an invitation being extended 💫

What a morning!

A day partying in the park earlier this month with little people and their families … such a joy and privilege to be part of!

Little people amaze me all the time with their curiosity and their courage to give new things a go … so many little people enjoyed choosing a feeling face and having a crack at making that same face in the mirror 😂 … others were drawn to choosing qualities and strengths that they felt represented them (the person in the mirror) ⭐️ … and bubble breathing demonstrated through play was pretty glorious 🫧 💫

For me, child protection is also about this: supporting families with practical information, ideas and opportunities that build capacity and connection 💫

Check this out!

At our recent trauma informed practice workshop, we worked hard and played hard!
PACE (play, acceptance, curiosity, empathy) was at the centre of our learnings.

💯 of participants across the two workshops facilitated so far, say they would recommend this workshop to others and feedback lets us know also, that participants walk away feeling more confident to support trauma experiences 🙌

A stand out - participants say they take away strong learnings regarding the importance of self care and how to embed practices to promote wellness 🌟

Another workshop is being planned for November … we are in the process of contacting people on our expression of interest/waiting list ✅

If you want to be part of the learning and the fun, and are not yet on our waitlist, feel free to reach out 💫

Monday Musing ☕️
Sometimes connection arrives covered in melted cheese …

One of the things I value most about working alongside people and families is the opportunity to learn. Not just about them, but from them.

Sometimes that learning comes through conversation.
Sometimes through stories, traditions and values.
And sometimes … it arrives in a foil tray 😋😂

I was recently gifted this deliciousness as a gesture of appreciation and respect for support that had been shared.

What stayed with me wasn’t simply the food.
It was the meaning behind it …

It reminded me that relationships are strengthened when we make room for curiosity … about culture, family, beliefs, values, traditions and the many different ways people express trust, gratitude and connection.

We don’t need to assume we understand someone’s world.
We can ask.
We can listen.
We can remain open to learning.

Questions like:

What is important to you and your family?
What does this mean for you?
Is there something about your culture, beliefs or experiences that would help me understand this better?

Curiosity creates space for acceptance.
Acceptance strengthens connection.
And connection gives us a much better foundation for understanding one another 💫

I think some of the most meaningful work happens when we stop trying to be the expert on someone else’s world and become genuinely interested in hearing about it.

And occasionally, apparently, that learning comes with a delicious dinner 😜
