The fire danger period has officially been announced for the Wellington Shire and East Gippsland Shire Municipalities. It is set to commence on Monday the 5th of October from 1am. CFA is preparing for another challenging season due to exceptionally dry conditions. These bring with them an above average risk for fires, so it’s important to start these restrictions now. For more information about the Fire Danger Period, please visit http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/firedangerperiod

The Fire Danger Period will begin 1.00am Monday 5 October 2026 for the following municipalities:
Wellington Shire Council
East Gippsland Shire Council

These restrictions mark the official start of Victoria's fire season. Make sure you know what you can and can't do during the Fire Danger Period.

The attached planned burn will be ignited shortly by crews from CFA and FFMV.

If you see smoke from that general area this is most likely why.

The Fire Danger Period is ending after Easter.
If you’re planning to burn off make sure it’s safe.
Always register your burn and check the weather before and in the days after.
If you light it you own it.
Check if restrictions apply, outside of the Fire Danger Period you may still need a permit to burn in some council areas.

Good Friday is almost here again!

With one week to go the Maffra CFA volunteers are busily working behind the scenes for our annual Good Friday Appeal Door knock and fundraising.

With the help of our amazing community we are able to help raise so much more for the Royal Children’s hospital and the sick kids that need our help.

If you’re able to spare an hour or even a few hours on the day to door knock for donations we would all greatly appreciate your help.

We will be ready to start from 9.30am on Good Friday, 3rd April. From Maffra fire Brigade.
