Thanks to Braidwood Fire and Rescue for this important message.

And while we’re seeing a spring making itself know here in Braidwood.

It’s is a good time to clear out what's built up around your home.

Remove leaves and debris from gutters and cut back overgrown vegetation close to the house.

Keeping these areas clear can help reduce the risk as bushfire season approaches.

Yesterday, Sunday, Majors Creek RFS went down the mountain to assist Araluen RFS with some hazard reduction.
It was great training for both brigades and we all achieved the goals for the day.
Thanks to Araluen RFS for their hospitality, it was great working with you all.

Heads up 👍

Over the past few days, crews have responded to numerous escaped burns across the state. With elevated fire conditions forecast across the weekend, we are urging residents to take extra care when conducting your burns.

While fire agencies and land managers will be closely monitoring areas where hazard reduction burns have been conducted earlier this week, we are also asking landholders to closely monitor their own burns.

If you are in an area currently within its Bush Fire Danger Period, you must have a permit from your local brigade and notify your neighbours and the RFS at least 24 hours before conducting your burn.

Don’t put your community at risk. For more information on safe burning, visit the website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/safeburning

Thank you Wamboin and Carwoola for this valuable information.

Well, you have had 5 months to do your “out of fire season” burns. There are only 4 weekends left to burn “Permit free”. From Oct 1, Permits are required, a permit officer MUST visit your property and if you comply with ALL the conditions, you will be granted a permit. Remember you aren’t always guaranteed to get a permit and you need to allow at least 7 days for a permit to be processed once the fire danger period starts (October 1)

Do you know your fire danger ratings?

Fire danger ratings:

❌ don't show how likely a bushfire is to start or how dangerous current fires are
✅ do show how difficult it will be to control/suppress a fire on the day
✅ are based on weather and fuel conditions.

🔥 Warnings are issued for extreme or catastrophic fire danger ratings.

Know your weather. Know your risk.
