My heartfelt appreciation for the extraordinary Renée from Renee Barton Studio🎨

The new mural at Coodanup Foreshore is simply glorious, and I’m so grateful to Renée for the thought, creativity and care she has brought to this community art project.

Inspired by the natural beauty of our Peel-Harvey Estuary, the mural celebrates the stories, culture and incredible biodiversity of this special place, including the deep connection Bindjareb Noongar people have with Country.

What makes this project so special is the way it has brought people together, with Traditional Owners, local residents, students, community groups and environmental experts all helping to shape the artwork.

It’s a beautiful addition to Coodanup Foreshore and a reminder of the things that make our community and the places we call home so special.

Thank you, Renée, and everyone who contributed to bringing this wonderful project to life💛

Last week I met with Liz and Amanda from Choyces to talk about the support available to families and young people in our community.

This community needs assessment is a great step towards understanding where the gaps are, what’s working well and where more support is needed.

If we want to strengthen support for families and young people, we need to listen to their experiences and understand what’s happening on the ground.

I encourage you to take a few minutes to complete the relevant survey and share it with your networks. Your feedback can help inform future services and advocacy across our region💛

Shout out to my home team! 💛

Hard to believe it’s almost five years since I was elected to represent East Ward, and now I’m coming up to 12 months as Mayor of the City I love.

Flashback photos are the best! They remind me just how much has changed, how much my kids have grown 😩, and how grateful I am to have my family beside me through it all. There’s no way I could have done this without you guys. You cheer me on, keep me grounded and make it possible for me to do all that I do.

Love you big! 💛

I still remember getting my first job in Mandurah when I was in Year 9 at Mandurah High School. It was a game changer! Thanks, Heb’s💛

I also remember trying to get my driver’s licence and not getting it until my early 20s. When it came to putting my résumé together, a dear friend even paid for someone to help me get it sorted~ thanks, Julie Harrison!

Looking back, I know how much those connections and a little bit of support can mean when you’re finding your way into the workforce. We all have different paths, and sometimes having the right advice, meeting the right person or simply knowing where to start can make all the difference.

That’s one of the reasons I think opportunities like the Mandurah Jobs and Careers Expo are so important. Connecting people with local employers, practical support and training opportunities can open doors and help people take that next step.

Whether you’re looking for your first job, returning to work, considering a career change or wanting to build new skills, there’s plenty on offer.

You can meet local employers, training providers and support services, get free one-on-one career and résumé advice, and attend workshops on job applications, interviews and managing job-search anxiety.

📅 Thursday 22 October
🕘 9am to 1pm
📍 City of Mandurah MARC
✅ Free entry, no bookings required

Sometimes it starts with a conversation, a bit of advice or a connection you might not otherwise have made. If you’re looking for your next step, I encourage you to come along and see what opportunities are out there right here in Mandurah.

After Music Under the Bridge last night, I joined the extraordinary Mehri and the Rise Walk and Shine community for the Mehragan celebration.

Mandurah is home to people with so many different backgrounds, cultures and traditions, and I love the opportunities we have to share in them.

Mehragan is a Persian celebration of love, light, friendship and gratitude, bringing people together through food, music, dancing and time spent in each other’s company.

A big thank you to Mehri, all the volunteers, dancers and performers who made the evening possible, and everyone who came along to be part of it.

At a time when there can be so much division in the world, it was incredibly special to be part of an evening centred on connection, kindness and celebrating the things that bring us together.

So grateful for our incredible community and all the amazing people who make Mandurah feel like home💛

Last night, Music Under the Bridge brought so many people together as part of the Mandurah Arts Festival. Even though it was a wee bit chilly, it was so good to see people come out to enjoy the music, the company of friends and strangers, and the beautiful place we get to call home.

There is something SO special about music. It has a way of reaching people, no matter who you are or what you might be carrying. It can bring peace, lift our spirits and connect us in ways that sometimes words can’t.

A massive shout out to everyone who made the evening possible, our extraordinary performers, City of Mandurah Arts & Culture team, staff, and volunteers, and my dear friend Brett Hill and his nephew Jack, who opened the event.

As many of you know, our community is grieving the loss of one of our Elders, Franklyn Nannup, who absolutely loved music, this place, our people, sharing his culture and dancing.

To be together under the stars, celebrating the things Franklyn loved, was incredibly special.

Thank you, Brett, for honouring Franklyn so beautifully. And to Jack, thank you for sharing your wisdom and reminding us of the importance of sowing seeds of hope and joy, walking together in unity and caring for one another. Such meaningful words to open the evening.

Last night was certainly a reminder that we can hold both grief and joy. And with World Mental Health Day also falling yesterday, it was a timely reminder of the positive impact the arts can have on our wellbeing. Music and creativity have a way of bringing people together, helping us express what we sometimes can’t put into words, and bringing joy and connection into our lives, even during difficult times.

Such a glorious way to celebrate a massive month of creativity in our community💛

As most people know, I take and share a LOT of photos 🤣📸

But when you see those photos, you probably don’t always know the story behind them or why I often look so darn happy, wearing my proud cheesy grin😬 So I thought I’d start sharing a few little backstories, because sometimes there’s so much more to a photo than meets the eye.

Take this one, for example.

Mr John Gibbs was the community police officer at Mandurah Senior High School when I was a teenager. He took me under his wing, shared his wisdom and humour, and helped guide me through some of the most formative years of my life.

Fast forward all these years and John is now one of the champions behind Spinifex Brewery, doing some pretty extraordinary things in a completely different space.

Every time I bump into John, I’m reminded of that teenage girl finding her way in the world, and of the people who helped shape her journey along the way.

It’s one of the reasons I feel so incredibly privileged to be Mayor of the city that wrapped its arms around me all those years ago. In this role, I get to cross paths with people who have been part of my own story, people who have made a difference in my life and in the lives of so many others.

Today, I just want to say, thank you, John! And take a moment to celebrate the positive impact you have had on my journey, long before either of us could have imagined where life would take us.

Happy Saturday, Mandurah💛

Such a great night celebrating our local business and community at the Alcoa Peel Business Awards Finalist Night! 💛

Massive congratulations to all the finalists announced last night. It was awesome to see so many familiar faces and celebrate the people, businesses, community organisations and services that make such a difference across our region.

There’s a lot of hard work that happens behind the scenes, and last night was a chance to recognise the dedication, commitment and passion that goes into what so many of them do.

When our local businesses and community organisations thrive, our whole region benefits. It was a real joy to be part of a night that celebrates just that.

Bring on the Gala Night!
