Community Efforts to Support Wildlife

A huge community effort helped provide new homes for wildlife impacted by the Longwood fires, with more than 200 nesting boxes built and painted by volunteers from across Mansfield as part of a project completed in September.

Led by Up2Us Landcare Alliance, the initiative brought together local organisations, volunteers and community partners to help restore habitat for hollow-dependent wildlife. The nesting boxes will support birds, mammals and other native species as the landscape continues to recover.

Mansfield Shire Council was pleased to support the project by assisting with the transport of the nesting boxes to Euroa, where they will be distributed throughout the fire-affected landscape by the Granite to Goulburn Biodiversity Recovery Alliance.

This project is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when communities come together to support long-term environmental recovery and care for our native wildlife.
