🍎🥕 WORLD FOOD DAY – 16 OCTOBER 🥕🍎

Today we recognise World Food Day, a reminder of the importance of access to nutritious food and the role we all play in supporting those experiencing food insecurity. 💛

With the rising cost of living, we know many individuals and families in our community are finding it harder to make ends meet.

At Mareeba Community Centre, we're proud to support our community through our Community Pantry, SecondBite and food relief services. 🥖🥬

These programs help provide essential groceries, fresh produce and practical assistance to people who need a helping hand.

💚 A huge thank you to our generous local businesses, food donors and community members who help make these services possible.

🦉 Did you know owls can't move their eyes? 👀

Unlike humans, owls have tube-shaped eyes that are fixed in place. Instead of moving their eyes, they turn their heads to look around.

And here's the amazing part... Owls can rotate their heads up to 270 degrees! 😲🦉
That's almost three-quarters of a full circle!

Imagine being able to look over your shoulder without turning your body! 😂

At Mareeba Community Centre, we believe that no one should have to face life's challenges alone. 💛

Through our Myndkind and Distress Brief Support services, our team works alongside individuals experiencing emotional distress, mental health challenges or difficult life circumstances.

🎉🌟 FUN FACT FRIDAY! 🌟🎉

🦘 Did you know Australia has more than 1,500 species of native bees? 🐝🌸

And here's something even more interesting...

Unlike European honeybees, many of Australia's native bees are solitary, meaning they live independently rather than in large colonies! 🏡

Some native bees are also excellent at buzz pollination, where they vibrate their bodies to release pollen from flowers. 🌼

These little workers play an important role in keeping our environment healthy and helping our plants thrive! 🌿💚
