Holdfast Evening VIEW Club

VIEW Clubs in S.A. gathered today for our Biennial Handover Luncheon, chaired by our Past and Returning National Councillor, Bernie McSwain. Bernie thanked our two retiring Zone Councillors Heather Smigiel and Barbara Young, and we all welcomed our incoming Zone Councillors Michelle Modra and Judy Myers. Councillor Dr Christel Mex from Norwood Council, shared her research on volunteer groups in S.A.and Team Leader Simon Renshaw gave an update on The Smith Family in S.A.and nationally. Presidents of all Clubs gave brief reports and we enjoyed a delicious lunch,and what we VIEW Members do well, socialising between our Clubs! Some lucky ladies won great raffle prizes, proceeds go to sponsoring Brayden, TSF student sponsored by our S.A. Leadership Team.

Our Holdfast Evening VIEW Club has 2 Facebook sites, this Public one, and also a Private one of VIEW members in our Club and elsewhere in Australia.
This Public site does present privacy challenges from time to time, and I am looking to pause it in the short term.

March 8th it is, and International Women’s Day, celebrated by 3067 attendees at the Adelaide Convention Centre at Breakfast this morning. This is the largest event in the Southern Hemisphere. It did not disappoint with Senator Penny Wong as MC, Guest Speaker Annabel Crabb, and also Senator Linda Burney. S.A. VIEW Club members were there at 7am to represent VIEW Clubs of Australia at our tables.
“Count her in. Invest in Women” is the IWD message this year, and Annabel of course had a long rope to inform and entertain us! Well worth the early start!

Our Club enjoyed the celebrations of an early International Women’s Day luncheon, with many other S.A.01 VIEW Clubs today. Our guest speaker was local writer H.R. Kemp or Hilmeen who explained her journey to become a published writer.
Our after lunch entertainment was very special to Holdfast as family members Paul Meschke and Paul Schramm, son of Elaine and husband of Athalie performed the VIEW songs they had written in Covid, and also debuted at our Adelaide Convention. They involved us all in later songs and we even had a quick wardrobe change for Paul S. then appearing as a bride. Thank you Marion VIEW Club for your organisation.

Holdfast President Rosie and Treasurer Cathy were among our members attending the S.A. VIEW Leadership Team Handover and Information Session today. President Rosie presented a short summary of our Club’s achievements to the participants. Incoming National President Elizabeth zoomed in from interstate and State Manager, The Smith Family, Graham Jaeschke outlined volunteering opportunities we could do to assist The Smith Family locally.

Relaxing and happy days to our VIEW friends across Australia at this festive time,and thank you for giving lots of Aussie kids a happier time too, and return to school, from all your hard work.

Congratulations to our long standing Program Officers Marg A and Athalie who have been presented with Boothby Volunteer Service Awards for their tireless efforts organising fundraisers like movie afternoons and fashion parades to support our 11 The Smith Family students. They have also sourced exceptional speakers and planned social activities for Holdfast Evening VIEW Club over many years.
Well deserved, public recognition of your immense contribution to our VIEW Club.
