I was called by Channel 7 a short while back after the controversy of court drawings of Taylor Swift. Here is the result. I hope I haven't misrepresented Bill Robles!

If anyone is interested, I have a sketching gig on Network 10's "The Biggest Looser - Transformed" tonight (16 March 17). This may be a surprise for some of my court journo mates from Chanel 10! I hope I remember to watch...

A quick note for my artistic connections, mates and students ...have any of you tried to do portrait miniatures? These four pieces are, clockwise from the biggest, Monica, our children Elena and Willem, then me. Painted from photos as children, these are all mounted in those dreadful little picture frames which occasionally pop out of Christmas bon-bons. What surprises me is how long they take to paint. The most recent is that of me which took the better of 3 or 4 hours with drying time, which is not long when you are using gouache!

This is a group of my students from a few years ago. A great group of people who all worked hard as I surreptitiously took photos for these doodles.

This group from University of Western Sydney were my Publication students, early in the decade. At the end of the semester, as they were displaying their work to the other Publication classes, I showed them and gave their individual sketches. I do wish I'd taken more care photographing some of these images, some are a bit blurred.

Yesterday was the 100th birthday of former PM Gough Whitlam. I drew him in the Glebe Coroners' Court on 8 May 2007, for an inquiry into the deaths of 5 Australian journalists at Balibo, East Timor in 1975. He was 91, his speech was slow and clear, his mind and wit still sharp. I remember particularly his elegant young hands...and that he didn't wear glasses!

A busy and varied week just passed! The fishing sketch is one of many I've been doing for a major client. Every time someone of note exits, retires or changes location I get a request such as this piece, where a financial manager and spread sheet obsessive is about to retire. I only hope they employ as many new staff as they retire!
After my Friday in court with the crowd crush for the sentencing of Oliver Curtis on insider trading charges, on Sunday I was called to sketch this fine example of manhood.
He was charged with sexual assault of a 22 year old woman, before kidnapping and ra**ng a 13 year old girl. He crashed his car behind a bus stop in Bondi after a car chase with police. His face was covered in bruises, one eye was swollen shut. The journalist I was working with and I couldn't make out the blue "bruises" over his left eye and next to his right, till we realised he had facial tattoos as well.

An interesting day in court yesterday. Oliver Curtis was up for sentencing on charges of insider trading. He was accompanied by his wife, publicity queen and fashion promoter, Roxy Jacenko. The court was small, crowded with the media, family, lawyers and interested gawkers. Finding a seat with a view, from which I could see the couple, with elbow room to scribble,was difficult!
