Today, we farewell Noel and Ann Fischer as they are retiring from Bidwill RFB and are moving closer to their family up North.
Noel has been instrumental in shaping the brigade into what it is today. He has dedicated an outstanding 33 years of service to the QLD RFS, including 20 years as our First Officer—the longest-serving First Officer in Bidwill RFB's history.
Most recently, Noel was recognised for his dedication with the Queensland Fire Department (QFD) Medal and the National Medal.
Throughout his service, Noel has attended countless fires, flood responses, hazard reduction burns, training sessions, and meetings. Along the way, he has mentored many firefighters, many of whom are now officers leading and running Bidwill RFB. His extensive knowledge, patience, leadership, and commitment have helped shape our brigade into what it is today. We are incredibly grateful for everything he has contributed to the brigade, our community, and emergency services across the state.
A special thank you also goes to Ann for her unwavering support over the years. Behind every dedicated firefighter is a family making sacrifices, and Ann has spent many nights at home while Noel answered the call to serve. Your support, understanding, and encouragement have played an important part in Noel's remarkable service, and we sincerely thank you for everything you have done for both Noel and our brigade.
As a parting gift, we have enclosed Noel's yellow Officer's helmet, the first officer rank epaulettes he proudly wore, and the name panel from his PPE. We hope these mementos serve as lasting reminders of your dedication, leadership, and the many memories he created throughout his years of service with the brigade.
On behalf of everyone at Bidwill RFB, we wish Noel and Ann all the very best for this next chapter. You will always be part of the Bidwill RFB family, and you will be greatly missed.
Finally, one lasting legacy that the brigade will continue is the tradition of saying "thank you" to FireCom after every incident and again once safely back at the station. This was Noel's initiative, and it reflects the respect, appreciation, and professionalism that he brought to the brigade.
