Since J.A. Henriques was appointed Consul in 1852, the United States of America has maintained a consulate in Melbourne, Australia.

The United States Consulate General in Melbourne represents American interests in Victoria, South Australia Tasmania and the Northern Territory across areas of public outreach, defense, political, and economic developments. The Consulate General moved to its present location on St. Kilda Road in 1990 and works to promote close ties between the United States and Australia. The Consular District covered by Consulate General Melbourne includes Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and the Northern Territory, which comprises approximately 35% of Australia’s population and land area.

How great was it to have the NFL touch down, Down Under? The U.S. Department of State and NFL partnership was on full display throughout Melbourne last week with the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers driving diplomacy far beyond the field. From Wisconsin cheese to California w**e, with a few tailgate favorites thrown in - America's finest was on full display during the visit of Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Luke Lindberg and the U.S. agribusiness delegation to Australia.

During his time in Melbourne, Under Secretary Lindberg:

✂️ Opened the USA Pavilion at the 2026 Fine Foods Expo, and met with American exhibitors looking to create further business ties with Australian businesses (with cheese highlighted on ABC News Breakfast!)

🤝 Met with Australian Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Julie Collins during the Trade Mission Plenary to discuss further opportunities for trade, business and cooperation

🍷 Launched the California W**e and U.S. Distilled Spirits Council's trade tour. Australia has been identified as a key market for premium U.S. brands

🥓 Visited a local Costco and met with everyday Aussies purchasing American produce

🐄 Toured Pure Dairy, an Australian manufacturer that is distributing American-made cheese products into the local market

👥💬 Spoke with business leaders at an AmCham meeting

🏈 Hosted a tailgate party showcasing American food and beverages ahead of the first-ever in-season NFL game in Australia.

The United States' and Australia's agricultural sectors are globally recognized, and Under Secretary Lindberg's visit reinforced our ties across agribusiness, trade, expertise, and innovation.

During his visit to Adelaide for the ADSTAR Summit, Assistant Secretary of War for Critical Technologies Michael Dodd stopped by FIVEAA to discuss how AUKUS Pillar II will create job opportunities, advance military capabilities, and increase force interoperability and strategic deterrence.

South Australia and the United States have enjoyed a long partnership and that continues with the first visit by new Consul General Colin Crosby.

During his visit, CG Crosby met with Adelaide Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith and Member for Hartley, Jenn Roberts MP. He also had the opportunity to discuss business ties and opportunities with AmCham.

Thanks for hosting CG Crosby - remains to be seen if he will be swayed by that Port Adelaide scarf!
