This week we observed International Day of Peace at our Rotary Melbourne Peace Bells. 🕊️ Peace is a collective responsibility. The base of each bell is inscribed with one of four steps to peace and the ringing of the bell serves to signify a personal commitment to take it.

In 1939, Rotary Melbourne dedicated a tree to Rotary International President Crawford McCullough from Fort William Rotary in Canada. Tomorrow we will have another crowd descending on the park as we launch our four new peace bells.

You can learn more about Dr McCullough on our new website here: https://rotarymelbournepeacepark.org.au/crawfordmccullough

The new Rotary Melbourne Peace Park website is now live, featuring the park's history, information about every famous Rotarian commemorated there, and a self-guided walking tour for people visiting during the Rotary International Convention later this week.

We are excited to be launching the new Peace Bells here this coming Wednesday afternoon!

Melbourne Peace Park While we are proud to be the Number One Rotary Club in Australia (established in April 1921, we were the first and we are still the largest) we are prouder still of our networks and partnerships that enable us to do so much to help build a better world.

In 1934, at the request of the Rotary Melbourne, the City of Melbourne Council made available a small area in the King’s Domain for a Rotary Park of Remembrance, where trees could be planted or ‘dedicated’ to honour distinguished Rotarians or mark significant Rotary occasions.

The founder of Rotary, Paul Harris planted the first tree in his only visit to Australia with his friend Angus Mitchell, Australia's first President of Rotary International and a Past Rotary Melbourne President. Over 50 prominent Rotarians, many World Presidents of Rotary, are recognised here.

In 2023 its name is officially changed to Rotary Melbourne Peace Park with the installation of four Peace Bells and the club will now host an annual event at the park on the International Day of Peace. 🕊
