If there’s one native plant we think represents this year’s National Reconciliation Week theme ‘All in’, it’s silver banksia, 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘴𝘪𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘢.

From producing nectar to sweeten drinks, to providing food and shelter for all kinds of wildlife, the silver banksia deserves us going ‘all in’ for reconciliation.

National Reconciliation Week 2026 | All In

This year’s theme, All In, reminds us that while National Reconciliation Week lasts one week, reconciliation itself must extend far beyond these dates — living in the minds, hearts, conversations, and everyday actions of all Australians.

Reconciliation is not a one-off moment. It is an ongoing commitment to listening deeply, learning truthfully, building respectful relationships, and walking together with understanding and care.

Generously funded by the Maxwell/Hanrahan Foundation, the students spent 8 weeks over summer carefully studying and illustrating their species.

Surrounded by a diverse range of industry professionals, botanic gardens are an incredible place to begin your career. Join the RBGV Science group to keep up to date with the latest news and how you can get involved!

Meet 𝘏𝘰𝘺𝘢 𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴🪴 This particular succulent vine on your screen is a special one…🌸

Our very own Horticultural Curator Lloyd collected a cutting of this one in 2020 from Boonoo Boonoo National Park (north-east NSW) as part of a collection trip focusing on plants from areas matching Melbourne’s predicted future climate.

Trips like these help make sure our Living Collections have the best possible chance of thriving for future generations!

After nearly six years of tender love and care, this hoya is finally flowering for the first time at Melbourne Gardens! Well done Lloyd 👏
