Tonight, the City of Port Phillip Council will consider a submission to the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion.

Local government has an important role to play in fostering safe, inclusive and cohesive communities. We welcome the City of Port Phillip's engagement with the Royal Commission process and its willingness to contribute to this important national conversation.

The proposed submission is available for public review, and the Council meeting will be open to the public and live streamed.

We encourage community members to follow this discussion and engage with the issues being considered as part of the Royal Commission process.

On Monday, Commissioner Virginia Bell publicly condemned the "undiluted hate" directed at witnesses who have bravely shared their lived experiences before the Royal Commission.

No person should face abuse for speaking about antisemitism. The willingness of individuals to come forward and share deeply personal experiences is vital to ensuring the realities facing our community are heard and understood.

We acknowledge the courage of those who have given evidence and made submissions. Your voices matter, and your experiences deserve to be heard with dignity and respect.

If you or someone you know has been affected by online harassment or the issues raised through the Royal Commission process, support is available through Jewish House (1300 544 357) or Jewish Care (1300 133 660).

Submissions to the Royal Commission close on 14 June 2026.
