Louis Edgar Cazaly is part of the reason we exist today.

As one of the veterans who inspired William Hawkins to establish the Carry On Club in 1932, his service and story helped shape a legacy of support for veterans that continues to this day.

Few words say so much. In the trenches, far from home, Lou Cazaly's quiet compassion for a sleeping young soldier speaks to the character of the man behind the uniform.
Lou's story didn't end on the battlefield. His resilience and spirit were a direct inspiration for William Hawkins, who founded the Carry On Club in 1932 — a lifeline for veterans navigating life after service.

When we set out to build our new website, we knew we wanted artwork that captured the heart of what we do — so we commissioned the incredibly talented Veteran Artist, Barry Spicer, to bring it to life by hand.

And wow, did he deliver.

This stunning pencil sketch captures a journey so many of our veterans know all too well — arriving with little, unsure of what's next. On one side, a man alone on a bench. On the other, a man walking through an open door.

That door? That's us. That's what we do.

Whether a veteran needs crisis accommodation or a permanent place to call home, we walk alongside them every step of the way — from the bench to the doorstep and beyond.

We had the honour of taking some of our tenants to the ANZAC Day AFL match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground ❤️

One of our Bendigo tenants, Russel, was already so grateful for the opportunity — but the day became even more special when a kind stranger noticed his medals while he was ordering food and paid for his lunch.

Moments like this remind us just how powerful kindness can be.
