The Fire Danger Period for Knox City Council, Manningham Council, Maroondah City Council and Yarra Ranges Council will be lifted as of 1am Monday 30th March 2026.
If you burn off after the conclusion of the Fire Danger Period, please be mindful that it is easy to lose control of your small burn-off. You can refer to the CFA brochure ‘Are you burning off safely?’ to ensure your burn remains safe and legal. Take care and make sure you have water available at all times and never leave your burn-off unattended.
Your local CFA Brigade can provide you with advice on how to safely burn-off, and how to best prepare yourself and your property for the next fire season.
Before lighting a burn-off, we urge residents to always notify their neighbours and register their burn either online via firepermits.vic.gov.au or by calling the Burn-Off Notification Line on 1800 668 511.
Always check and adhere to your council’s local laws and regulations before burning off.

🏕️ Packing up camp today? The job isn't finished until the fire is cold. Even if the flames are gone, hot coals can smoulder underground for days and reignite when the wind picks up.
Please remember: Burying a fire does NOT extinguish it. It just insulates the heat.
Follow these steps to ensure your campfire doesn't become a bushfire:
💦 Drown it: Pour water on the fire until the hissing stops.
🪵 Stir it: Use a shovel or stick to stir the ashes and break up the coals. This ensures the water reaches the heat at the bottom.
🪣 Drown it again: Apply more water to the stirred area.
✋ Check it: Hold the back of your hand near the ashes to feel for radiating heat.
If it's too hot to touch, it's too hot to leave. Keep pouring and stirring until the ground is cold.
Safe to touch. Safe to leave.

🚴♀️🏃♂️ Planning a ride or run tomorrow? Check the fire risk first.
With an Extreme fire danger rating forecast for tomorrow, we’re asking cyclists, runners and walkers and other exercise groups to rethink routes through high-risk bush and forested areas, including Warrandyte, Warburton and the Dandenong Ranges.
On elevated fire danger risk days:
• Fires can start and spread quickly
• Smoke, heat and potential for falling debris can make conditions unsafe
• Access roads may close with little notice
👉 Choose lower-risk routes closer to built-up areas, shared paths or urban trails, and avoid forested reserves on elevated or extreme days.
Your safety matters, and reducing activity in high-risk areas also helps emergency services focus where they’re needed most.
Before you head out:
✔️ Check the Fire Danger Rating
✔️ Review warnings and conditions
✔️ Have a safe route option and a back-up plan
Stay active. Stay informed. Stay safe.
