A message from Duff Gregfield
"Thanks to all who came to our 3 and a half hour occupation … err l mean pleasant little picnic … out the front of Labor’s Minister for Housing Harriet Shing’s office in Melbourne. A fun little action, someone walking past donated $9 and even the security guard who removed the tiny house l set up on the ‘garden’ made a joke about ‘staying off the weed’. Sadly no sign of our friend Ms Shing but there’s always next time 🙂"

🏠 Victoria is facing a housing crisis.
We say: House ONE MILLION Victorians by 2034 - and use Victoria’s stamp duty revenue for Public Housing, not to grow developer profits.
📣 JOIN Public Housing - Everybody’s Business
📅 Thursdays: April 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30
⏰ 12:00pm – 1:00pm

Public housing affects everyone. It stabilises rents, supports communities, and keeps people in their homes. Expanding privately owned “social” and “affordable” housing instead of true public housing puts profits before people - and we can’t afford that.

🥪 PUBLIC HOUSING PICNIC AT HARRIET’S 🥪
Everyone is welcome to join us for a peaceful picnic outside the office of Harriet Shing as we ask a very simple question:
📄 Where are the 146 Building Reports?
These are the reports the government says justify the demolition of 44 Public Housing Towers—a decision that will plunge around 10,000 of society’s most vulnerable people into housing insecurity.
So let’s gather, share some food, and politely invite the Minister to produce ANY of the reports that supposedly justify this massive upheaval.
🗓 Tuesday 17 March
⏰ Midday
📍 1 Spring St, Melbourne CBD
Bring a friend. Bring your curiosity. BYO snacks
Because transparency shouldn’t be harder to find than a sandwich at a picnic.

🏘️ Public Housing - Everybody’s Business 👨👩👧👦
For years, state and federal governments have claimed they’re “addressing” housing. Yet here we are in the middle of a housing crisis.
Before we go any further, let’s define something important 👇
Over the last decade, the word PUBLIC has quietly disappeared from the housing conversation.
Instead, we’re told about:
🏘️ Community housing
🏠 Social housing
🏡 Affordable housing
But here’s the truth:
👉 Public housing is publicly owned and publicly managed.
👉 “Community”, “social”, and “affordable” housing are privately owned - even when run by charities or NFPs.
That’s the issue. Not who manages it - who owns it.
Over the past decade, policy changes have all but privatised what remains of the public housing sector.
Today, community, social, affordable and public housing combined make up less than 3% of total housing stock in Australia.
So we have to ask:
❓ How did this happen?
❓ And why are we letting it continue?

🏘️ Public housing is more than just a roof over your head - it’s a public good. If you believe public housing is a critical issue in this state and this country, JOIN US! There is always strength in numbers and WE NEED YOU at the Public Housing - Everybody’s Business rallies.
Public housing affects everyone. It stabilises the rental market, reins in runaway private rents, and keeps communities intact. Privatising public housing - through unlimited government support for so-called “affordable, social, inclusive and community housing” that is privately owned - is a recipe for disaster.
