Jindi Woraback (Join and Unite) 🏀

Over the weekend, we took part in the second annual Jindi Woraback basketball cup - a day centred on connection, community and coming together in the lead up to Reconciliation Week.

The event was organised by the ND1 Proactive Policing Unit and Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer Aunty Eva Jo Edwards, in partnership with the Koorie Academy, saw players from right across the organisation take on the Koorie Academy All Stars!

While the scoreboard didn’t fall our way this year (we’ll get 'em next year!), the day was about building relationships, breaking down barriers and strengthening trust through shared experiences. 🤝

As Uncle Ricky Baldwin said, this event is far bigger than basketball. It’s about bringing Mob and Victoria Police together in a positive and supportive environment.

A big thank you to Collingwood Basketball for hosting, Fire Rescue Victoria for coming along and supporting the day, and Rotary for putting on a fantastic BBQ for the community.

Congrats on your back-to-back win, Koorie Academy All Stars 👏

Why do Police stop cyclists who aren't wearing helmets?

Around 4pm on 18th May 2026, the Yarra Neighbourhood Policing team were proactively patrolling in the Carlton North area. They spotted a chap whom Police will allege wasn't wearing a helmet whilst cycling and decided to have a chat.

The male decided otherwise and made off with Police chasing on foot. He was detained a short distance away and was found to be in possession of a what Police will allege to be a loaded firearm.

The male was arrested and is currently remanded in custody (and won't be getting a ticket for the helmet!).
