It has now come to light that Hobsons Bay Mayor and Councillor secretly attended the so-called “Mayor’s Antisemitism Summit” an event condemned by the Jewish Council of Australia as a far-right propaganda platform promoting a pro-Israel agenda under the guise of combating antisemitism.

Despite clear community warnings, both councillors not only attended but also accepted financial gifts from an international Zionist organisations backing the event.

These are the same councillors who refused to support Pro-Palestine motions while Israel continues its brutal assault on Gaza, and who have since ignored all questions raised at council meetings and failed to respond to multiple emails seeking accountability.

The community deserves to know the truth. So much for the RRR Roads, Rates and Rubbish excuse.

A voice of courage and integrity, Councillor Rayane Hawli stood firm in solidarity when it mattered most. Our community is stronger because of leaders like her. Thank you ✌️🇵🇸

We deeply appreciate the dedication, hard work, and collective effort of the community in making this possible.

Despite that the the pain and suffering still continues in palestine, but tonight we are a proud community that remined resilient to ensure that Palestine was Council business. The hard work paid off.

On Wednesday, 20 August 2025, residents of Hobsons Bay gathered peacefully inside the office of Tim Watts MP to demand that Australian government sanction the state of Israel immediately as a means to pressure it to end the ongoing genocide, occupation and crimes against humanity being committed against the Palestinian people.

Recognition of Palestine is meaningless while Palestinians are being massacred by the state of Israel and our government continues to arm, trade with, and shield the genocidal state.

We call for immediate sanctions, an end to weapons exports, and the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador.

Our message is clear: Australia must choose justice over complicity.

However, the Egyptian authorities held them for hours at the airport before deporting them back to their countries, allowing only a few to enter. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry issued a statement reminding people to “follow organizational procedures [...] and submit official requests through Egyptian embassies abroad,” trying to reduce the issue to routine administrative formalities, despite the deportees’ assertion that their visas and documents were in order. The convoy also released a statement clarifying that it “does not have any bias against the Egyptian regime,” emphasizing that its message is directed solely against the Zionist enemy and that its sole goal is to exert international pressure to end the siege on #Gaza.
