In light of recently restrictions in Sunshine North and surrounds (Melbourne), it is time to remember what we are thankful for. Here is a meme I made to remind us all that no matter how bad things are, there are more kettles on our wonderful planet than on our neighbouring planets.

If we were to give the aliens access to kettles, I wonder what delightful hot/warm beverages they’d come up with. Perhaps a Mars/Neptune tea blend? Ha ha.

It’s a good thing that this isn’t a news page. It wouldn’t be a very good one, as content is very thin.

In other news today, I tried an apple and cinnamon tea blend. Delightful. Ha ha.

As some of you may know, in November last year I met a lovely lady online in Myanmar, Suu.

Suu, knowing about my passion for hot/warm beverages, invited me to her home town of Mogok, which happens to be the tea capital of Myanmar. Upon arriving in November, two young men, who I assumed to be taxi drivers, picked me up to take me to Mogok. Suu had even told them the place I was staying.

However, they robbed me, stole my passport and my heirloom ceramic tea infuser (which I previously looked forward to using with a Myanmar cinnamon blend), before telling me to get out of their car. Eventually I managed to flag down a car that took me to Mogok. I went to the address that Suu gave me, only to find an elderly Burmese man. Alas, I think Suu may have given me the wrong address. The man did give me a lovely cup of jasmine infused tea though.

I contacted the Australian embassy, and they agreed to house me. But unfortunately, without a passport, and with covid rampant, I was unable to fly back. They made me sleep in the kitchen for the last three months. My lower back pain is far worse now to the point that I might have to give up on my dream of being a professional footballer. Ha ha. Sleeping in the kitchen was a blessing in disguise though as they kept the tea cupboard well stocked with local blends. Their cinnamon tea is to die for, as was their three leaf blend.

Eventually, the embassy were able to fly me back, and I had to do a mandatory 16 day quarantine in Melbourne.

The experience was particularly unpleasant, as on the second day, I turned the kettle on, forgetting to fill it up with water, and the element shorted. The hotel staff were unable to replace my kettle for quarantine reasons. So for the last two weeks I have been heating my water on the oil heater in the room. The side effect of this is that the room got unbearably hot, and the rash on the insides of my arms has returned. Also, it took 2-3 hours to heat up each mug of water. As a result, the heater was constantly on all day; as I need a hot/warm brew every 2-3 hours I have had three negative tests now and am back at my residence in Sunshine North. It does feel good to be back.

Alas, Suu is no longer responding to my messages. I think she might have lost interest as I have been unable to contact her as I had no internet at the Australian embassy.

I hope everyone is well. It is good to be back home.

Cheers,
Greg
