Our local waterways are precious, fragile and often mistreated- but not beyond repair and thanks to the endless 1,000's of volunteer hours devoted to planting, clearing, rubbish collection and weeding the future is certainly looking brighter than it was 20 years ago.
On Sunday the Kooyongkoot Alliance, together with the Whitehorse Council, the EPA, Melbourne Water and many of our fantastic 'Friends of' groups gathered at the Blackburn Sanctuary for our Waterways Expo- a growing event packed to the gills with practical conservation ideas, education and projects- including my personal favourite plastic recycling- check out the skateboard made entirely from recycled water bottle caps!

• opting for reusables, like bags, coffee cups and even nappies and period products in your day-to-day life
• taking part in our range of plastic-free workshops and learn to make upcycled bags, keyrings and beeswax wraps: whitehorse.vic.gov.au/sustainable-whitehorse
• Repairing instead of replacing at healthAbility Repair Café - Whitehorse.
• Get your hands dirty with National Tree Day community planting at Wurundjeri Walk in Blackburn South on Sunday 27 July.
• Find treasures or share your own on local Buy Nothing Facebook groups
Big changes start with simple switches.
