An update about Connect Local
Connect Local was built on the understanding that social connection is essential for wellbeing. Since the program launch back in May 2023, that approach has grown into something much bigger: supporting stronger connections and deeper partnerships, and helping create a more connected community across Glen Eira.
Connect Local has worked alongside a strong network of community organisations to support residents to build confidence, find belonging, and re‑engage with their community. The impact of this work has been felt not just by individuals, but across this network of community organisations. We are very proud of what has been achieved.
Connect Local will continue running until the end of October 2026. From 1 June 2026, we’ll no longer accept new referrals so the team can focus on supporting people who are already involved.
An evaluation is currently underway to capture the full impact and learnings. We already know from the personal stories shared that Connect Local has made a real difference in many people’s lives.
The need for social connection doesn’t go away. We’re hopeful the learnings from Connect Local will help shape the future of place‑based social connection programs locally and beyond.
We are grateful to the participants, community groups and services who have helped make local connection welcoming and possible.
We thank everyone who has been part of this journey.

We’re celebrating Neighbourhood House Week this year by painting kindness stones.
Painting rocks symbolises a connection to the earth, personal expression, and the spreading of positivity within our community.
Please allow a little extra time when attending your program. A table will be available for you to sit and paint your stone – all resources and ideas for inspiration will be available at your fingertips. These stones will be used to transform a welcoming entrance!
We can’t wait to share this lovely experience with you!
