It was a pleasure to welcome Anthony Cianflone MP, State Labor Member for Pascoe Vale, Coburg and parts of Brunswick West, and Parliamentary Secretary for Community Safety, to our Centre-Based Respite Program in Pascoe Vale. 💜

For more than 12 years, this program has been bringing older people from diverse cultural backgrounds together. It offers a welcoming space where participants can build friendships, enjoy meaningful activities and stay connected to their community.

Anthony received a warm welcome from our participants, who proudly shared traditional gifts from their countries of origin and stories about their cultural backgrounds. Our CEO, Maryanne Tadic; Manager – Community Connections and Wellbeing, Faten Alhelow; and Respite Coordinator, Elina Nowak, were also there to welcome him and join the conversations over morning tea.

It was a wonderful opportunity to share the strong sense of community within the group and highlight the important role culturally inclusive aged care programs play in helping older people feel connected and supported.

Visits like these also create valuable opportunities for older people to share their experiences and have their voices heard.

Thank you, Mr Cianflone, for taking the time to meet our participants and learn more about the program.

My Aged Care has warned about scams targeting older people, their families and carers. Some scammers may pretend to be aged care providers or assessors.
Scam calls, messages and emails can look genuine, so it’s important to know what to look out for.

🚨 𝗕𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘂𝗻𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁. Aged care assessors will arrange visits in advance and provide identification.

🔒 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Never share personal or financial details if you’re unsure who you’re speaking with.

📞 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸. If someone says they’re from My Aged Care and something doesn’t feel right, end the conversation and contact My Aged Care directly on 1800 200 422.

🤝 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁. A family member, friend or community representative can support you if you’re unsure.

100 years young! 🎂

We recently had the joy of celebrating a very special milestone with Mrs Marianna her 100th birthday!

With her Polish roots and warm spirit, Mrs Marianna has been part of our respite group for the past 13 years. Those who know her know her wonderful sense of humour, positive outlook and the smile she brings to the group. 😊

When asked about her secret to a long and happy life, her answer is beautifully simple:
“Be grateful for every day and be a good person.” Words worth remembering.

We feel very lucky to have shared so many wonderful years and memories with you.

Driving meaningful conversations on dementia awareness and culturally safe care at Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia - FECCAA Conference 2026!

We’re proud to have Dr Medha Gunawardana, Manager - Community Strengthening, and Nalika Ahangama, Senior Team Leader, representing Australian Multicultural Community Services (AMCS) at the FECCA 2026 Conference in Canberra.

Through their presentation, they will share valuable insights from a co-designed, community-led program focused on reducing dementia-related stigma in culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

At AMCS, we recognise the importance of working alongside communities to break down barriers, challenge stigma and create more inclusive and culturally responsive support.

We look forward to contributing to these important national conversations and sharing the knowledge and experiences gained through our work with multicultural communities.

Dementia Action Week may be over, but the conversation shouldn’t stop. 💜

This year’s theme was “It’s time to talk about dementia” and that’s exactly what we did.

We brought people together to talk, learn, ask questions and raise awareness about dementia in our community. A big thank you to Vines Road Community Centre, our guest speaker Dr. Michael Angputra, local service providers, our staff and everyone who joined us and helped make these conversations possible.

At AMCS, we know how important it is to have a safe space to talk. Through our dementia groups, workshops and programs, we continue to support people living with dementia and their carers throughout the year.

So, let’s keep talking. 💬

Talk to a family member, friend or colleague. Ask questions. Listen. Learn. Share.

AMCS have come together with 14 non-profit organisations who all have touch points across palliative care. Together we form the ‘Victorian Palliative Care Alliance’ with a focus on the delivery of quality palliative care for all Victorians. The alliance is calling for urgent action to address significant inequities in access to palliative care following the release of the State of Palliative Care in Victoria 2026 report.

Maryanne Tadic, our CEO, says "Older Australians should be able access the care they need, when they need it most, including Palliative Care. We call for Palliative Care to be resourced and available at the right time, in the right place, and in a way that is culturally appropriate for our diverse communities."

🏡 Have questions about how a Support at Home budget works?

Here are a few important things to know:

📅 Support at Home budgets are provided every three months, with quarters starting in July, October, January and April.

💰 10% of an ongoing quarterly budget is allocated to care management, which supports the planning and coordination of care and services.

🔄 Unspent funds can carry over to the next quarter, up to $1,000 or 10% of the quarterly budget — whichever is higher.

📋 The amount of funding a person receives depends on their Support at Home classification level. There are eight ongoing classification levels, based on assessed care needs.

At AMCS, we believe you should understand your funding, how your budget is being used and the care and services available to you. We’re here to make that information clear and easier to understand.
