Have a look at this easy guide for your January-February plantings: https://www.yummygardensmelbourne.com/summer-vegetable-garden.html

It's probably too late for tomatoes, but it's a good time for some other favourites like beans, broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, leeks and lettuce. If you let just one of your lettuces go to seed, you will have new lettuces popping up all over the place like weeds forever and that's a good thing!

The Club will be holding a working bee at the Gardens on Sunday 1 August, between 10 AM and 2 PM, if COVID restrictions permit it.
During this time the Gardens will be open to the public to visit. There will be a composting workshop to demonstrate the design and use of our timber compost bins and there may be a few surplus vegetables on offer if you get there early!

Please note that we may have to limit attendance or cancel at short notice if COVID restrictions on outdoor gatherings are in force. Be prepared to wear a mask as a condition of entry and please don't attend if you are feeling unwell or have recently been to a high-risk COVID location.

Our Story

The St Kilda Community Gardens Club allows local residents to grow their own flowers, herbs, fruit and vegetables. It is a non-profit organization, self-funded from membership fees, which range from $30 to $90 p.a. and entitle our members and their families to a personal garden plot and access to shared facilities. We are also planning to offer associate membership ($30 p.a.) for people who simply want access to the gardens and involvement in the Club’s social activities (currently suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions). The income from membership fees pays for essential running costs. Club members also work as a group towards overall maintenance of the Gardens and improvement of the facilities. The Gardens are located at 2-5 Railway Place, a short walk from Balaclava train station. All residents of the City of Port Phillip are eligible to apply for membership, but there is a long waiting list.
