Today we acknowledge and celebrate the 34th anniversary of Mabo Day.

This day carries deep meaning for our communities. It honours the strength of our old people and the truth they have always carried.

We pay respect to Eddie Koiki Mabo and the Torres Strait Islander families whose courage led to the landmark 1992 High Court decision, recognising what was never surrendered.

Mabo Day reminds us that our connection to Country, culture and community remains strong, and that when we stand together, we continue to create change for our people.

At Ngwala, we carry this spirit forward in all that we do, with respect, strength and self-determination, walking alongside community every day.

We walk in the footsteps of giants, and we strive to honour their legacy through the work we do today.

Did somebody say coffee, culture and career pathways? We had a blast bringing Ngwala to the 2026 Be Deadly Jobs Expo, an event that merged cultural celebration with professional opportunities.

A huge group of Ngwala staff enjoyed yarning with community at our stall, sharing warm bevvies from our coffee van, and even having a bop to Mitch Tambo's performance!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to chat about our work and sharing your aspirations for the future! Thanks to Opendoor for organising the day and the Aborigines Advancement League Inc. Vic for hosting this incredible event 🌟

This year, the theme for National Reconciliation Week is ALL IN.

For us, this not a slogan – it’s how we live and work. This week is about our people and showing up for mob.

We show up for our people. We stand steady in the hard moments, and we walk together side by side.

That’s what this week is about: different journeys, same connection.

We’re ALL IN.

Today we acknowledge National Sorry Day.

We remember the Stolen Generations and the truth that still lives on in our families, our history, and our present. We don’t separate ourselves from this truth.

As Uncle Archie reminds us through his voice and stories, truth must be spoken even when it’s hard, and healing begins when we do.

We honour the strength of our old people, survivors, our families, and those continuing to heal.

We remember. We stand in our truth, and we carry responsibility forward ❀
