Teaching children to pack up after play is an important part of early childhood learning. It helps children develop a sense of responsibility, independence, and respect for their environment. When children participate in packing away toys and materials, they learn that everyone contributes to caring for shared spaces.
Packing up also supports the development of organisational skills, problem-solving, and memory as children sort items and return them to their correct places. Working together during pack-up time encourages teamwork, cooperation, and communication with peers and educators.
In early learning settings, pack-up routines provide opportunities for children to build confidence, develop self-help skills, and gain a sense of achievement. These experiences contribute to children’s growing understanding of routines, belonging, and community participation.

Making their own playdough provides children with a fun and hands-on learning experience that supports creativity, problem-solving, and sensory development. As children measure, mix, pour, and knead the ingredients, they develop fine motor skills, hand strength, and coordination. This experience also encourages communication and teamwork as children share ideas, take turns, and work together throughout the process. Creating playdough allows children to explore textures, colours, and changes in materials while building confidence and independence through active participation in the learning experience.

Today at Goodstart Early Learning, we acknowledge National Sorry Day and take time to reflect on the importance of respect, inclusion, and reconciliation. This day helps children begin to understand the value of kindness, belonging, family, and connection to culture and community. Through meaningful experiences such as storytelling, discussions, art, music, and learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, children are encouraged to develop empathy and appreciation for Australia’s history and diversity. We honour the strength and resilience of the Stolen Generations and continue to work together towards healing and reconciliation.

Dramatic play is an important part of early childhood learning as it allows children to explore the world around them through imagination, creativity, and role play. By pretending to be doctors, shopkeepers, parents, chefs, or community helpers, children develop their communication and language skills while learning to express their thoughts and emotions. Dramatic play also supports social development as children learn to cooperate, share ideas, negotiate roles, and build friendships with their peers.

World Bee Day is celebrated each year on 20 May to raise awareness about the important role bees and other pollinators play in our environment and food systems. Bees help pollinate many of the fruits, vegetables, flowers, and plants we rely on every day, making them essential for healthy ecosystems and biodiversity.

Our Mother’s Day celebrations provided children with a meaningful opportunity to express their love and appreciation for the special people in their lives. Through creative experiences, conversations, and shared activities, children explored the importance of family, kindness, and belonging. Celebrating families helps children develop a strong sense of identity and connection, while also recognising the unique relationships that support and nurture them every day. These experiences encourage empathy, gratitude, and respect for the important role families play in children’s growth and wellbeing.
