The South Australian Government has legislated to make AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) mandatory in public places, some workplaces & facilities.
Continue to support our AED petition calling on all Australian State & Territory governments to make public access AEDs as commonplace as fire extinguishers.

24 Hour Public Access Defibrillator – Rotary In Action
Club Of Brighton Charitable Foundation, with the assistance of a Rotary District 9800 Foundation Grant, has donated a 24hr Public Access Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Tower outside the new Brighton Life Saving Club & Beach House Café buildings, visible from the bathing boxes and the beach.
This pilot AED installation has been a joint initiative of Rotary Club of Brighton and Brighton Life Saving Club (BLSC) and will be monitored and managed by BLSC members.
When the lifesavers are not on patrol in this highly populated beach precinct, the community project AED will be accessible to the public. Multiple sudden cardiac arrests occur in the Brighton Beach location each year and 24hr access to an AED could undeniably save lives.
On Saturday November 16, 2024 at 11:30am, Rotary Club of Brighton & BLSC will launch the first 24hr Public Access Automated External Defibrillator.
A cordial invitation is extended to community members to attend the launch and learn more about this initiative.
Tours of the new Life Saving pavilion (133 Esplanade, Brighton) will be available on the day and Beach House café will be open for refreshments.

Installation of 24hr Public Access Defibrillators is a critical stage of progression to raise survival outcomes from out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest. The resistance, reservations and fears, espoused by a few, that these life saving devices will be stolen or vandalised is not rational justification for locking the cabinets or not installing them at all.
Accessing locked cabinets creates time critical delays as well as potential injury. The findings of the attached study paper posted by Professor Janet Bray supports the risk of theft or damage as being very low, regardless of whether cabinets are locked or not. Minutes matter to save a life and there should not be unnecessary 'roadblocks' for rescuers.
An initiative sponsored by funds from Rotary Club of Brighton & Rotary DIstrict 9800 has started with a 24hr publicly accessible AED to be installed next week outside the Brighton Life Saving Club, close to the popular tourist attraction, the Brighton Bathing Boxes.
More 24hr AEDs stands outside life saving clubs are in the pipeline.

Gradually the 'Back in a Heart Beat' message is spreading and action is growing. The Western Australia Department of Education has mandated that Automated External Defibrillators (AED) must be located in all public schools by end of June 2024. Advocacy continues for legislation by all State & Territory governments to make public access AEDs as commonplace as fire extinguishers.
