Ten minutes from Merimbula in the beautiful Bega Valley, savour the rare opportunity to see a koala, wander among the kangaroos, touch a snake, or stroll through the walk-through aviary. You can get up close to our kangaroos, emus, and ducks who roam the park freely and hand feed them with an Animal Feed Bag. We try to create a natural habitat for the animals at Potoroo Palace. We offer daily tours with our keepers at 10.30am and 2pm to help you spot some of the animals. This is included in the admission fee. If you want to come real close to your favourite animal you can book a private animal encounter. There is also a train through the park! Potoroo Palace is a not-for-profit organisation passionate about caring for the Earth
Our aims are:
•To improve the habitats and wellbeing of the native animals already in our care
•To promote public awareness of their plight in the wild
•To educate the community about the importance of the conservation of our unique Australian native animals and plants. Many of the animals at the sanctuary are native to the Merimbula area. We have Long-nosed Potoroos, Macropods such as Eastern Grey Kangaroos and Wallabies, and two Bare-nosed Wombats. Emus and even Dingoes can be found in the surrounding area. Koalas and Long-nosed Potoroos are very rare here now, but were once abundant. People come from all over the world to Australia to see our native animals!

For 20 years, Potoroo Palace Native Animal Education Sanctuary has been a cherished home for native Australian wildlife, a place of discovery, learning, and connection.

Located on the beautiful Far South Coast of New South Wales, Potoroo Palace provides a safe, permanent home for native animals that cannot be returned to the wild. Through animal care, education, and conservation awareness, we inspire visitors to discover Australia's unique wildlife and understand why protecting it matters.

Behind every moment is a community of people who make it possible. Every animal has a story, every encounter creates a connection, and every life deserves care.

Now, we are looking towards the future.

As Potoroo Palace celebrates 20 years of care, we are seeking the next custodians of the sanctuary to help guide it into its next chapter.

This is an opportunity to build on an established legacy, continue our commitment to animal welfare and conservation, and create new possibilities for wildlife education and visitor experiences.

We are looking for people who share a genuine passion for native wildlife and a vision for the future of Potoroo Palace.

The story isn't over. Will you be part of its next chapter?

As things slow down over winter, the work behind the scenes doesn’t.

Every animal still needs feeding, care, and a safe place to land.

When you buy a yearly pass this May, you’re directly supporting that work, helping us stay open, keep going, and care for every animal that calls the sanctuary home.

Unlimited visits. Half price. One small action that makes a real difference. Book your annual pass on our website ❤️🐨
