One hundred medical students will be coming to the Wheatbelt in March 2027 as part of the Wheatbelt Medical Student Immersion Program. Rural Health West is on the lookout for hosts to provide accommodation for two or three students, assist with transportation, and share what itโ€™s like to live in a rural town.

Applications for the 2026 Eric Hind Scholarship are closing on Friday 30 October 2026. Open to emerging talent across Music, Theatre, and Dance, this scholarship provides valuable financial support for young performers. Recipients can use the funding to advance their ongoing studies, enrol in lessons, or purchase quality instruments.

Eligibility:
๐ŸŸ  Applicant must be a resident or student in the Shire of Merredin.
๐ŸŸ  Must not have won the scholarship in the past five (5) years.
๐ŸŸ  Applicant must be at least seven (7) years of age and under 20 years of age.

Across Western Australia, weโ€™re seeing a rise in dangerous fires inside waste collection vehicles caused by incorrect battery disposal. When rubbish trucks compact waste, batteries can easily get crushed and spark a fire. It only takes a single battery to put waste workers, drivers, and communities at risk.

The Shire of Merredin has received a request from the Merredin Menโ€™s Shed to lease part of the existing Rams Shed, managed by the Eastern Districts Merino Breeders Association.

The Menโ€™s Shed seeks to use the shed for the storage of materials and machinery. The Menโ€™s Shed and Eastern Districts Merino Breeders Association have confirmed that the shed will still be used for livestock sales by the Association, and that the shed can be utilised by the Merredin Agricultural Society for the annual Merredin Show.

This matter is intended to be considered at the October Ordinary Council Meeting. If any person or group has any objections to this arrangement, please email the Chief Executive Officer at [email protected], prior to 12:00pm on Wednesday 14 October 2026.
