Kindergarten Transition Ready to Begin

We are excited to welcome our 2027 Kindergarten students to their Transition sessions, beginning in Week 2 of Term 4 on Tuesday 20 October. Our first session will run from 9:00am to 11:00am and will provide children with a wonderful opportunity to become familiar with their new school environment, meet new friends and enjoy a fun morning of learning and play.

Parents and carers are asked to drop their child and their bag at the classroom at 9:00am and return to collect them from the front gate at 11:00am.

Children are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and enclosed shoes, and bring along a piece of fruit, a hat and a water bottle.

We look forward to welcoming our newest little learners to Merriwa Central School!

Grandparents & Friends Day

On Friday, 30 October, our Kindergarten to Year 6 students will be celebrating Grandparents and Friends Day at the Primary Campus. We warmly invite all grandparents, family members and special friends to join us for this wonderful occasion.

The day will begin with our K–6 Assembly at 10.15am. Following the assembly, our P&C will provide morning tea for our special guests. Any donations of slices or sweet treats would be greatly appreciated.

Families are then invited to visit our open classrooms from 11.30am to 12.30pm, giving our students the opportunity to share some of their learning and classroom experiences with their special visitors.

Our Grandparents and Friends Day celebrations will conclude at 12.30pm.

We look forward to welcoming you and sharing this special day together!

Primary K–6 had a fantastic day celebrating the end of term with a fun-filled End of Term Celebration Day!

Students enjoyed coming to school in their pyjamas and participating in a range of fun activities throughout the day. In the afternoon, students settled in for a calm movie session, watching Toy Story 5 together. 🧸🍿🎬

It was wonderful to see students having fun, spending time with their friends and celebrating all their hard work throughout the term. A great day was had by all!

We hope everyone has a safe, happy and relaxing holiday! 🌟

On Tuesday, 22 September students from both our Primary and Secondary Campuses proudly represented our school at the Mendooran Central School NAIDOC celebrations.

Students were treated to an incredible performance by Mitch Tambo and Lele, which was certainly a highlight of the day!

We had a wonderful time celebrating and engaging with Aboriginal culture, learning through shared experiences, making new connections with students from other schools, and coming together as a community.

A big thank you to Mendooran Central School for welcoming us and providing our students with such a memorable experience.

A huge congratulations to our 11 Show Team members, whose day began bright and early at 6:30am. Students washed, dried and fitted the steers, mucked out yards and prepared for the day ahead before participating in Junior Judging, showing in the prime classes and competing in their parader heats. Merriwa was the first show for every one of our students!

Their commitment, teamwork and behaviour were outstanding, and they represented Merriwa Central School and our Agriculture program with pride.

A huge thank you to our wonderful Agriculture teachers Ms Checkley, Ms Burgess, Mrs Southgate and Mrs Martin. Many hours of work happen behind the scenes preparing students, animals, gardens, produce and entries. Thank you for the extra hours, early start and giving up your Saturday to provide our students with such a valuable experience.

And, of course, a special mention to Rufus, Rusty and Rebel. They had their moments, but were great boys for their first show! Our steer program wouldn't be possible without them or the generosity of the community members who donated them to our school. Keep an eye out for individual posts about our steers and donors before the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza in Term 4.

Congratulations to everyone involved in a fantastic Merriwa Show!

On Tuesday, 22 September, our Year 7 Science students presented their assessment to Year 2/3. Each Year 7 group selected an animal and crafted an engaging storybook that included detailed information about the animal’s habitat, classification and adaptations. The diverse and imaginative storybooks showcased the dedication and creativity of our students. Congratulations to Year 7 for stepping out of your comfort zone, collaborating effectively as a team and demonstrating pride in your work. A big thank you to Year 2/3 for being such a wonderful audience. Your insightful questions and thoughtful feedback made the experience even more meaningful.
