🧠 TIPS FOR A HEALTHY HEADSPACE 🧠
Following R U OK? Day and World Su***de Prevention Day last week, we thought we'd share some tips for creating a 'healthy headspace' to help support young people in tough times.
GET INTO LIFE
Achieving small tasks and doing things you enjoy can boost your confidence and lift your mood.
Set small goals, find activities you enjoy and make a schedule.
LEARN SKILLS FOR TOUGH TIMES
Developing your own positive personal coping strategies can help make you more resilient, develop your self-awareness and build your confidence.
Notice how you respond in tough times and access support if you need help in building these skills.
CREATE CONNECTIONS
Healthy relationships are super important for your mental health. When you spend time with people you care about, who care about you, this can help you feel connected and supported.
EAT WELL
There is a strong link between what we eat and how we feel. Eating well helps give you more energy, helps you sleep better and improves your concentration.
STAY ACTIVE
Exercise is great for your wellbeing - but it doesn’t have to be running on the treadmill. It’s really anything that gets your body moving.
Activities like walking, playing sport, yoga, dancing or swimming will all help you release stress and give you a better chance of improving your mood.
GET ENOUGH SLEEP
Quality sleep is like a mental health superpower. When you get enough sleep, it's often easier to manage your emotions.
If you’re aged between 12–17 then 8 to 10 hours sleep is ideal, and 18–25 year olds should try to get 7 to 9 hours. Keep in mind that different people need slightly different amounts of sleep.
CUT BACK ON ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS
Limiting alcohol and other drugs it can clear your mind, improve your energy, and boost your motivation.
Substance use can be a part of life for lots of people, but sometimes, it can start to feel like it's taking more than it's giving.
