Dr Russell Barr and his wife Margaret visited the Scottish Australian Cairn in Rawson Park, Mosman, where Dr Barr reflected on contributing a stone from his Scottish parish more than 40 years ago. The cairn, made up of stones from parishes across Scotland, celebrates the enduring connection between Scotland and Australia.

In an interesting coincidence, their son Bob Barr is Council's Manager of Community Services.

Here are the key takeaways from Tuesday night’s Council meeting. Council agreed to:

👓 review the conditions of entry and relevant policies for Council-operated facilities to determine appropriate restrictions on the use of smart glasses and wearable technologies, while recognising legitimate accessibility and assistive uses

🤝 develop a Business Activation Partnership and Sponsorship Framework to support business-led initiatives that contribute to economic development, destination marketing, place activation and business sustainability through potential financial and in-kind assistance

🏪 investigate opportunities to activate vacant shopfronts through temporary uses such as art displays, community initiatives and creative pop-ups, helping to enhance street vibrancy and encourage business participation

Council's advocacy to keep HMAS Penguin in public hands continues, with a community rally planned for 11 October at Balmoral Rotunda. We also wish all Year 12 students the very best as they begin their HSC exams, with extended study support available at Mosman Library and the Youth Centre.

October is Motorcycle Awareness Month, and we're reminding all road users to look twice, check your mirrors and blind spots, and share the road.

Motorcycles make up just a small percentage of vehicles on our roads, yet riders remain among our most vulnerable road users.

Before changing lanes or turning, take an extra second to check your blind spots. That simple habit could help save a life.
