The State Emergency Service (SES) is a volunteer emergency service organisation which gives immediate assistance during emergencies and disasters. We also provide community response to 'day to day' incidents such as vehicle accidents, searches, cliff rescues, flood and storm damage situations and any other incidents that might require rescue or search services. The SES is part of a national network of similar services in each State and Territory around Australia. More than 1,600 SES Volunteers are members of 67 Units across South Australia. Volunteers provide emergency response to the community of South Australia 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The SES also cooperates closely with other statutory emergency services and has storm and flood relief as responsibilities in State legislation. As the Hazard Leader and Control Agency for extreme weather in South Australia, the SES aims to increase community awareness and preparedness relating to extreme weather events. A well prepared community is better able to respond to and recover from an emergency. To become an SES volunteer phone 1300 364 587

πŸ”₯ BURNOVER TRAINING – PREPARING FOR FIRE SEASON πŸš’

On Tuesday night, our SES members took part in important burnover training, with the assistance of Mount Barker CFS and their crew.

With fire season fast approaching, training like this is vital in ensuring our members understand the risks, know how to respond, and are prepared to protect themselves and their teammates in the event of a burnover. πŸ”₯

❗️A burnover can happen quickly, leaving crews in an extremely dangerous situation. Practising these procedures helps reinforce the importance of situational awareness, correct protective actions, communication and teamwork when operating in high-risk environments.

Training together also provides a valuable opportunity for our SES and CFS crews to share knowledge, strengthen our working relationships and ensure we’re better prepared for the challenges ahead. βœ…

A huge thank you to Mount Barker CFS and their crew for assisting with the training and sharing their knowledge with our members. πŸ‘

As we head into another fire season, we continue to train, learn and prepare β€” because when it comes to safety, preparation matters.

πŸš’ Tree Down with Powerlines Involved πŸš’

Mount Barker SES & Bridgewater Country Fire Service crews attended an incident today involving a fallen tree limb with powerlines involved.

Upon arrival, crews quickly confirmed that powerlines were indeed involved, requiring the scene to be treated with caution. Crews remained on scene for an extended period while awaiting SA Power Networks (SAPN) to arrive and make the area safe.

Once SAPN had made the powerlines safe, crews were able to continue their work and progress with the job.

⚑ A reminder to the community: Fallen trees and powerlines can pose serious risks. Always assume fallen powerlines are live, stay well clear, and never attempt to move branches or debris near them. Report the hazard to SA Power Networks and call 000 if there is an immediate danger.

A big thank you to all crews involved for their patience, professionalism and teamwork in ensuring the incident could be managed safely. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ’ͺ🏼

πŸ”₯ A Night of Learning, Teamwork & Practical Skills! πŸ”₯

Last night, Mount Barker CFS assisted with a hands-on training night with our SES members, giving them the opportunity to learn a valuable life skill β€” how to safely use a fire extinguisher in an emergency. 🧯

The night involved practical demonstrations and, most importantly, the chance for members to get hands-on and put their skills to the test in a controlled environment.

While we all hope we never need to use a fire extinguisher, knowing when and how to use one safely can make a huge difference in the early stages of a fire. 🧯

A big thank you to our CFS members for sharing their knowledge and to our SES friends for getting involved and giving it a go! πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸ‘©β€πŸš’

Train together. Learn together. Stay safer together. ❀️🧯

🚨 Building Impact – Car into Building 🚨

This morning, our SES crews, along with Metro South State Emergency Service, Mount Barker CFS and Mount Barker South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service, were called to a building impact following a car crashing into a building. 🏠

❗️Crews worked for several hours to safely clean up the significant mess caused by the impact and secure the area.

Our specially trained shoring members were also utilised to assess and stabilise the damaged structure, helping to make the building safe and reducing further risk to those on scene.

A great example of multiple emergency services working together, with specialist skills and equipment coming together to safely manage a challenging incident. πŸ’ͺπŸΌπŸ™πŸ»

πŸ‘ A big thank you to all crews involved for their hard work, professionalism and commitment to keeping the community safe.
