We are delighted to share that Narges Hasanzadah, our MECA Dari Caseworker was awarded Young Woman of the Year at the Chifley Carol McLean Awards 2026, celebrating the remarkable contributions of women in Chifley.

We are grateful to see her commitment to supporting individuals, families and community recognised alongside the inspiring contributions of other women across Chifley.

The legacy of Carol McLean reminds us that meaningful change begins with compassion, empathy and a willingness to support one another.

Our heartfelt thanks to Ed Husic MP our Chifley Local MP for recognising women whose dedication and leadership strengthen our communities.

MECA, in partnership with The Kaizen Foundation, is inviting girls aged 12–18 years to a fun and supportive 9-session Jiu-Jitsu self-defence workshop every Tuesday!
Build confidence, resilience and teamwork while learning practical skills in a safe and encouraging environment.
📅 First session starts on Tuesday 20 October
⏰ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

👕 No prior experience or specialised gear required – just wear comfortable sports clothes.

What an inspiring day of connection, confidence and empowerment at our Girls Only Jiu-Jitsu Taster Day!

It was incredible to see girls from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds step onto the mats, try something new, support one another and discover their own strength in a safe and welcoming environment.

The taster day session was about more than learning Jiu-Jitsu - it was about creating opportunities, building confidence and showing our girls that sport is a space where they belong. By bringing opportunities closer to our communities, we can help break down barriers and create pathways for girls to participate, connect and thrive.

Girls-only programs like this have the potential to create lasting positive change. They encourage young women to develop resilience, self-belief, leadership skills and a sense of belonging; all of which contribute to stronger, more connected communities.

At MECA, we believe empowerment begins with access, representation and support. Through partnerships with dedicated professionals, coaches and community leaders, we can provide meaningful opportunities that inspire women and girls to recognise their potential and confidently pursue new future pathways.

When we invest in empowering women and girls, we strengthen the entire community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this day possible and to all the girls who showed courage, curiosity and confidence by joining us on the mats. We can’t wait to continue building more inclusive pathways for our communities.
