Watch this crane truck actually get to work. The Hape crane truck is one of the favourites on our construction shelf, lifting, swinging and stacking just like the real thing, and it's brilliant for hand-eye coordination and those long, focused building sessions little ones get lost in.

No need to find a permanent home for it in the toy box once the crane phase passes. Borrow it, build with it, hand it back when the next obsession takes over.

Come see it in action (and the rest of the construction crew) at the library this Saturday.

Little builders, this one's for you. This week's play theme is all things construction, and our shelves have plenty to borrow: Hape Australia crane truck, aPlaymobil crane set and a Green Toys Toys dump truck, KICKBrick and more ... ready to load up a whole building site.

Pair them with things you've probably already got at home, a sandpit for digging and tipping is perfect, or a read of Mighty, Mighty Construction Site before bed. Then round the theme out further with a construction-themed jigsaw or a builder dress-up set from the library too, so the whole play session ties together without buying a single new thing.

That's the beauty of building a theme from the toy library rather than the shop: you get variety without the clutter, and when the construction phase moves on to something else, it all goes back on the shelf rather than into a cupboard at home.

Three wooden Hape Australia vehicles have landed on our shelves this week: an ambulance, a fire engine and a crane truck, all ready to borrow as a set.

Suitable for ages 3 and up (please double check against the label on ours), these are built for the kind of open-ended role play that keeps kids busy for ages. One day it's rushing the ambulance to save the day, the next it's putting out a pretend fire or running a whole construction site with the crane.

Moving parts like the wheels, doors and crane arm are also great for fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, and swapping between the three vehicles gets the storytelling and problem-solving going.

Three solid wooden vehicles like this add up fast if you're buying new, and take up a fair bit of shelf space once the emergency-vehicle phase moves on to whatever comes next (it always does). Borrowing means your family gets the whole trio without the price tag or the permanent spot in the toy box.

Spin a tune 🎶 The Hape Tune Time Phonograph is new in the library.

This little phonograph comes with two music discs to play and one recording disc, so children can make and play back their own sounds. A fun, hands-on introduction to music and how it is made. Suitable for ages 3 and up.

Just one of a stack of muscical based toys we have from earliest of years through to older ages where music meets STEM.

In case you missed it ... check out our new BRIO deluxe dinosaur train set!!

This deluxe wooden set includes eight colourful dinosaurs with movable limbs, a dinosaur train with wagons, plenty of track, and a volcano that erupts with lights, sound and steam. The storage box even unfolds into a play mat, and it works with other BRIO World sets you might already have.

Drop the beat 🎶 The Hape DJ Mix and Spin Studio is new in the library.

This wooden music station grows with your child, from button-press sounds and sing-alongs to playing the keyboard and mixing tracks. Music play is great for rhythm, listening, coordination and confidence, and it is good fun to do together.

It can even add some entertainment during snack time! Free to borrow with your membership.
