βœοΈπŸ’› PBL – Be a Learner: I Try New Activities! πŸ’›βœοΈ

Our Junior Secondary students have been putting our PBL focus into action by trying new activities in their classrooms!

πŸ“ In Maths, students have been exploring measurement using real-life objects, giving them opportunities to learn through practical, hands-on experiences.

πŸ’ƒ In The Arts, students have been getting creative and learning how to sequence their own dances, trying different movements and putting them together in their own way.

We are so proud of our learners for having a go, exploring new experiences and building their confidence. 🌟

Sometimes being a learner simply starts with being willing to try something new! πŸ’›βœοΈ

🌟 Fortnight Focus 🌟

We are encouraging students to use β€œdifferent” to explore choices, notice differences and communicate when they want something else!

πŸ”„ β€œI want something different.”

🎨 β€œWe have different colours!”

😊 β€œWe all like different things!”

πŸ’œ Different is wonderful! Let's celebrate what makes us all unique while building communication skills every day!

βœοΈπŸ’› PBL Focus of the Fortnight πŸ’›βœοΈ

Our PBL focus is:

πŸ’› Be a Learner – I try new activities. ✏️

Over the fortnight, we are encouraging our students to have a go and try something new!

Trying a new activity can look different for every student. It might be exploring a new sensory experience, joining a group activity, trying a different classroom task, or simply engaging with something unfamiliar for the first time.

🏑 You can practise at home too! Encourage your child to try a new game, food, activity or experience, and celebrate their efforts for having a go.

🌟 Remember, success isn’t always about completing the activity. Sometimes trying is the achievement!

πŸ“ž A quick call to check in!

Every student matters at Mount Isa Special School, and we love seeing them learning, communicating and connecting with friends. πŸ’›

School starts at 8:30am. If your child isn’t at school by 9:00am and we haven’t heard from you, De Andre, our Student Support Officer, or another staff member will call. If we can’t reach you, we’ll send an SMS.

πŸ“± Please answer our call or reply to the SMS so we know your child is safe and why they’re away or running late.

If you already know your child will be absent or late, please let the school office know before 9:00am.

Having trouble getting to school? Reach out β€” we’re here to listen and help. 🀝

πŸŽͺπŸŽ‰ OOPS… WE FORGOT TO HIT UPLOAD! πŸŽ‰πŸŽͺ

We were having SO much fun at our PBL Carnival Rewards Day in the final week of Term 3 that we forgot to share the photos! πŸ“ΈπŸ˜‚

Better late than never, right?!

🎯 Games, laughter, smiles, a little friendly competition and a WHOLE lot of fun! 🀩

Our amazing students celebrated all their hard work showing our school rules: Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be a Learner! 🌟

What a fantastic way to finish the term, celebrating positive behaviour, big achievements and all the little wins along the way! πŸ’›

So here’s a little throwback to the carnival fun we had before the holidays! 🎑🍿

πŸ’¬πŸŽ‰ AAC AWARENESS MONTH IS HERE! πŸŽ‰πŸ’¬

At Mount Isa Special School, we know that EVERY voice matters and communication is EVERYONE'S business! 🌈✨

What an INCREDIBLE way to kick off AAC Awareness Month! πŸ™Œ

🌟 A HUGE shoutout to our amazing students who are finding their voices, making choices, sharing ideas and showing us that communication comes in so many different forms!

πŸ‘ And to our superstar staff who are modelling AAC, giving it a go, creating opportunities and making communication accessible EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Whether it's PODD, symbols, gestures, signs, devices or facial expressions β€” ALL communication counts! πŸ—£οΈπŸ’œ

πŸ’ͺ Keep modelling!
πŸ’¬ Keep communicating!
πŸŽ‰ Keep celebrating those little (and BIG!) AAC wins!

🌟 Fortnight Focus 🌟

πŸ’¬ AAC Word of the Fortnight: LIKE
We are encouraging students to use β€œlike” to share their preferences, interests and choices.

πŸ‘ β€œI like that.”
🎡 β€œI like music.”
😊 β€œI like it!”

πŸ›‘οΈ PBL Focus: Be Safe – I use my tools
Students are learning to use the tools and strategies that help them feel calm, regulated and safe β€” such as taking a break, asking for help, using AAC, movement or sensory supports.

πŸ‘ Families can help by talking about things your child likes and encouraging them to use the tools that work for them.

Communication + regulation = confident, safe learners! 🌟
